SébastiEn+SebastiAn

Under the loving production of Guy-Manuel De Homen-Christo (Half the robotic duo, Daft Punk) comes the new album by Sébastien Tellier: Sexuality (released on Record Makers). Personally I never digged Tellier in the same way I never REALLY liked Air. Just didn’t seem to capture my attention for long enough. However, SebastiAn has come along with a nice and smooth remix that just makes you want to tango rather than bang your head.

Plug-In City - Broke on a Wheel

No going, kids…stay in school

I have been really slack of late. It looks like the rest of the WAVESATNIGHT crew haven’t got their priorities right. For me, there will be a self-imposed hiatus from blogging, due to coming exams. Not fun-on second thought, school isn’t meant to be fun!

Advice for you cool cats out there who are doing exams - don’t go out. You will fail miserably. Fight your urges to procrastinate however hard it may be. At Klaxons, the last weekend before I knuckle down, I expressed my anger (even though I was just a tad starstruck) to Cut Copy maestro Dan Whitford for putting their tour during exam time. Why oh why you dirty pirate hooker?

Instead of calling the waambulance, I’m taking some advice from my main man Robert Smith and putting on a brave face…

MP3: The Cure - Boys Don’t Cry

p.s. the klaxons gig was f-ing mindblowing

Soul glow

Managed to get my grubby little paws on the Soulwax remixes compilation, aptly titled (I guess): “Most Of The Remixes We’ve Made Over The Years Except For One By Einsturzende Neubaten Because We Lost It And A Few We Didn’t Think Sounded Good Enough Or Just Didn’t Fit In. But Including Some That Are Hard To Find Because Either People Forgot About Them Or Just Simply Because They Haven’t Been Released Yet. A Few We Really Love. One We Think Is Just OK. Some We Did For Free. Some We Did For Money. Some Just For Ourselves Without Permission And Some For Friends As Swaps But Never On Time And Always At Our Studio In Ghent.” Their remixes always kill and I never thought Id ever hear myself say I could enjoy anything with an association with Robbie Williams. Most of the tracks you’ll probably already have, so I’ll chuck up some of the better ones you wont.

Sailing silver waves

Wow. Gosh. Where do I start… Supposedly there was meant to be an “It’s Not Over Yet” remix done by Justice for the Brittish “Atlantis to Interzone” rockers Klaxons but this one has come from left-field. Actually, the ‘As Above So Below’ single will be digitally released in France on October 22nd with this Justice remix + a French version of the original song. Good stuff! The laid-back remix contains a dash of ZZT’s “Lower States” and also a spoonful of Soulwax’s remix of “Phantom, Pt. 2″. It’s a good listen. It’s Justice. Enough said.

MUSIQUe from PUZIQUe

You know when you just cant stop playing a certain song? You go through your itunes/winamp (whatever) looking for something to put on and just cant go past playing that song one more time. In my case it usually kills it and I cant listen to it anymore. But this track I cant get out of my head. ‘Dont Go!’ is a new release from PUZIQUe (a collab between Boys Noize and D.I.M.) under Boysnoize Rec. and has more of a nod towards the classic french filtered house sound of the 90’s. Boys Noize will be here next month, and even though D.I.M. was here recently, I have heard possible news of Puzique playing a gig at around the same time. Lets hope so.

Big up to Crydamoure

yo. With the advent of this blog and it being called “WAVESatNIGHT”, I find it only fitting that we pay our respects to the less appreciated half of Daft Punk and his label. Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo set up Crydamoure Records with Eric Chedeville under the moniker of “Le Knight Club” and released some quality tracks not only by Le Knight Club, but by Archigram, Paul Johnson and DJ Sneak.

In 2003, the artists on the Crydamoure label joined to co-produce the 12” “If You Give Me The Love I Want”. The track here, found on this release, is funkier than Sly Stone’s hairdo.
The Crydamoure Waves compilations encompassed the whole catalogue of the label’s releases and are more than a worthy addition to one’s music collection. If you can find it, you’d be dumber than your average footballer not to buy it. Compared to the all conquering solo releases by Thomas Bangalter with his Stardust and Together side projects, Le Knight Club is quite understated indeed. The “french touch” scene owes a lot to this label…and for this, unfresh raises the fist.
