A Town In City consists of Travis MacDonald and Tristan Davies and at times sound like TV on the Radio with deep, fuzzy riffs, along with the dark, depressive vocals and mood of Jesus & Mary Chain or Joy Division. The recordings obviously sound very raw, but this is a band to watch. ‘Mr. K’s Arcade Invertables’ is an example of how well two guys can give such a full sound, much in the way you often forget that the Black Keys are just two men. Supporting The Renderers (nz) and Into The Void (nz) this Valentines Day at the Northcote Social Club. Come with your girl (or guy, depending on your sex and sexuality). Should be $12 on the door.
Finally the waves have returned to shore and we are ready to get the ball rolling again. Woah! OK, down to business…
For all you cool cats out there that unfortunately didn’t tune into 3rd Class Radio last night, you missed a nice display of tracks played by yours truely Knightlife, some being two never before heard remixes. The man in white-shining armour also declared that a more refined version of ‘Crusader’ will be on his next release, being backed with a more ‘housey’ track.
Chris Price began in the music industry in a very different way to most artists. His first venture was making background music for porn (sorry, ‘adult entertainment’) under the name D’Crescendo. Awesome. Such a good porn name. Anyway, he has broken free of that scene and gone on to bust out a new full length album called ‘Post Pop Parade’. Listening to the album, a few things become apparent. One: his influences can really be heard in a few of the tracks, very Depeche Mode, and two: he really needs to find his voice. Some artists (Bernard Sumner of New Order, Muscles, Tom Vek etc) cant ‘classically’ sing for shit but have found the perfect style and tone for their voice, not just warbling till you hope you hit the notes. In a few songs its spot on, but on others you can hear the notes strain. But ‘Dim the Lights, Evangeline’ is catchy. Give us some feedback.
Just like to say that the blog is shifting to a new server this week so apologising in advance if songs won’t download, etc. Don’t worry, everything will be up very very soon!
Alex Gopher is one of my favourite French producers. Period. Gopher started his French music campaign by being in a pop band called “Orange”. A few notable frenchman were in present in the band: Etienne de Crécy and also both members of Air. Orange were together for six years which first begun in 1985! These days alot have changed. After the breakup, Gopher still collaborated with Etienne and Air with other projects, but he is mainly well known for his solo work, most notably his release “You, My Baby and I”. Gopher also started up his own record label Solid. Geez, I think it was the in thing for most French producers to start their own label…
Anyway, here is a remix by Aussie-legends Riot in Belgium and Knightlife of Gopher’s latest single “Aurora” - very, very cool remix. You can purchase “Aurora” from Juno.
This is a re-post in request for those of you who wanted to pick up the tracks again.
I love going out to clubs and stumbling across a random band that really make an impression. I went along to see datA last Friday at Valve, wandered upstairs and the first act was just setting up. I had thought it was just going to be DJ’s all night but was interested to see a tough Korg and a keytar getting started. Turned out to be a local act, Outrun, that had always managed to slip by me. Seriously, go check out Dan and Josh live. The vocals sound like a calm Kurt Cobain laid over a twisted and deep synth line, and on a club system just sounds crazy.
Oh, and I’m pretty sure we saw on of the Gribble kids from round the twist dancing like a penguin the whole set. Another highlight.
