As summer looms and you find yourself leaving the cold electronics and noise walls of winter behind you need music that feels like the sunshine on your face. Breezy summer pop tunes to wash over you as you drive/ride around town without a care in the world.
Little Joy, side project of Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti released their lovely self-titled LP last week. Slices of delicious 60’s sounding summer pop, at times a touch of 70’s tropicalia, but always with a definite Stro-kes-esque tinge.

Caetano Veloso was one of the leaders of the Tropicalismo movement of the 70’s and his sound has never been hotter. The influences on the Little Joy LP reminded me how great he is.

Lastly, Tahiti 80 are something of a guilty pleasure. Sounding like Phoenix but with unabashed pop sensibilities in the place of hipster cool. They have a big following in Japan, as in big pop following, and you can see why. They’ve just released their 4th LP “Activity Center” that does away with the electronics of their previous releases going for a more live rock sound.

Wow, awesome tune.
come home and feed your baby!
