DETROIT

Ive got a whole bunch of great stuff this week to share.
First off is Morgan Geist, one half of quite average Brooklyn duo Metro Area. Not the best intro, but his debut solo album Double Night Time is actually really really good. Its full of fantastic little minimal techno-pop gems that will appeal to any fans of Junior Boys for sure. In fact, the first track off the album, Detroit, features Jeremy Greenspan from the Junior Boys. This album will be floating around my speakers for a while I think.

Bradford Cox of Deerhunter never stops. Between himself and his solo project, Atlas Sound, he has put out some of the most solid and standout music of 2007/08. Microcastle plus its bonus whole album Weird Era Cont. dropped recently (officially) but was leaked so early on in the year, and it is without a doubt my top album of 2008. Not content with the abundance of gold they have lain upon us this year Deerhunter have recorded ‘On Platts Eyott Island Session’, a sort of homage to late UK radio DJ John Peel and his infamous Peel Sessions. Only 200 copies were made and only onto cassettes. But you can find it around digitally too.

We have already spoken about Geneva Jacuzzi enough in the past month, so just listen to her cover of The Cure. Thanks to Have Fun Club too.

Plus one sweet remix of Panda Bear’s 2007 track, ‘Im Not’.

You were joking about Metro Area, right … right? I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but chances are you have not heard some of their best work. They released quite a few gems that are must have’s, in my opinion. I urge you to listen to the following selections are reconsider your position: “Atmosphrique,” “Miura,” “Caught Up.” Either way, thank you for sharing this track. On my list as the next to pick up. Peace …. -MJ

Yeah, I can say that was a bit of an overstatement, but I do think theyre average. Nothing special. But that is just my personal taste mind you.

Well it just seems like people tend to take it personally when you express and opinion about a band. Like if I say: The Killers are about as rocking as a wet newspaper…
