I adore Swedish band Studio, as wikipedia describes them as “the missing link between The Cure and Lindstrøm touching on Can, Neu, Happy Mondays and The Smiths in their creation of an afrobeat-dub-disco-indie-pop adventure”. A mash of everything I love. Their 2007 album West Coast is still on high rotation wherever I happen to be. D. Lissvik is one half of that band, and has just just released his own solo album simply called ‘7 Trx + Intermission’, which is exactly what it sounds like. 7 tracks, all named Track 1, Track 2 etc, with two intermission tracks. Listening through the album, you really do get a sense that it is HALF of studio. You still get the great progressive guitar twangs, the deep soft beat and occasional synth swooshes, but this is definitely a more down tempo affair.

NYC’s The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have been on the scene since 2007, with dropping catchy (in some cases, The Cure inspired) noise pop numbers like ‘This Love Is Fucking Alright!’, and ‘Gothenberg Handshake’. Their self titled album has just landed, so if your into any kind of indie-noise-shoegaze-pop then give these guys a go.

Studio is an amazing band. ‘West Coast’ is one of my favorites of ‘07, sounds great on vinyl.
Wow, you guys seem to know exactly what I’m listening to. First The Whitest Boy Alive post just when I decided to check them out, amd now this, just after I’ve decided to invest in D. Lissvik’s album. Geniuses.
Okey yeah, thanks.
Good piece.
