Not much has been really catching my ears this year that hasn’t already been covered (Whitest Boy Alive, Animal Collective, Dent May) but here are a few tracks, new and old, that have been demanding my attention.
Harlem Shakes are a band whose debut i was eagerly anticipating and am a little surprised at what they delivered. I don’t know what i was expecting but it’s something like Tokyo Police Club meets Neutral Milk Hotel and i’m thinking i like it.
MP3: Harlem Shakes – Strictly Game
Rafter’s Sweaty Magic EP last year was another weird surprise. Out with the rickety DIY trembles and 30 second songs and in with a whole lot of sweaty disco magic. A delirious, funky, heatwave dance tune.
MP3: Rafter – Salt
Don’t know much about Mother Mother other than they hail from Vancouver and they make some great stomping folk-pop. This song just makes me want to jump fences and run run run…
MP3: Mother Mother – Wrecking Ball
And to finish a good old-fashioned electro track circa 1982, for those night drives in the city, searching for someone or something, Somewhere in the Night.

OMG –> RAFTER
I love it when you post El. Its always a goldmine
2009 is already shaping up to be a sweet arse year for music i think.
