To get yourselves started on some fantastic music, I suggest first hunting down the three New York Noise Compilations. Every one is bursting with amazing late 70’s/early 80’s New York No Wave, Death Disco, and Noise Rock. From there move on to at least the first two Mutant Disco comps (the first one is the best). Then you can begin to get a feel for the songs from under the dancefloor.
Starting you off here is the aptly titled ‘Death Disco’ by Public Image Ltd. (John Lyndon’s band after the Sex Pistols).

Gang Of Four’s debut album ‘Entertainment’ is a must have album and is a great example of the post-punk/dance punk from that era. This track comes a little later than that album and progresses on to incorporate elements of mutant disco along with their own deep bass trademarks.

Moving up to alot more recent sounds, last year Jacques Renault released his own take on the always solid RVNG of the NRDS series. Each track is an edit of an old disco funk track and Ive totally fallen for them all.

Finally, UK duo Padded Cell bring the sound down to a darker level.
