When you’re finding study a drag and all your favourite bands just remind you of how much you aren’t having fun and all your ‘chill-out’ music makes you want to do nothing but nothing, i find nothing hits the spot better than a bit of dirty, sweaty, bad-aaaaaaassss funk. The following is off the EXCELLENT compilation by Quantic titled The World’s Rarest Funk 45s (Volume 1) and never fails to get me going whatever the need.

Reclusive no-wave one-man-band Blank Dogs is releasing a follow-up to the great On Two Sides LP from last year titled Under And Under. Distorted vocals, white noise guitars with sparse twilight zone synth and looping drum machines. If Joy Division, Jesus and Mary Chain and Dark Day were cats that you’d tied up in a sack and dropped down a well, the sound they made would be Blank Dogs.

Yppah’s Gumball Machine Weekend is my chill-out track of the month. Chill-out is a term that has been bastardized to the point where to some people it is synonymous with dull generic electronic shite, so don’t get the wrong idea. Cruisy, dreamy, a little funky, Yppah is chilled without ever acting as a sedative.

Dirty Projectors released Stillness is the Move the first single off their forthcoming Bitte Orca LP a few days ago. It is a solid track, an obvious single, but it pales in comparison with some of the other tracks on an album that si destined to end up on many top 10 lists. Wild, majestic and brilliantly constructed.

cheers for the funk!
Keep up the good work.
