WAVES AT NIGHT

HIATUS

With all the shit that’s been going on recently I haven’t really found the time to post anything, or even keep up to date. There’s been so many new things happening to me that the thought of actively seeking MORE new things to digest seems crazy. Regardless, I have picked up one or two things that have been the most recent soundtracks to my confusion.

Having been on a severe Death From Above 1978 diet for the past month with a touch of Jesus and Mary Chain may explain why CrocodilesSummer of Hate found it’s way into top rotation/repeat on my now defunct ipod. (grrr love/hate technology)
Searing synth-laced noise-pop, full of directionless rage born from the boredom of the disenchanted.

On the flipside, Mount Eerie’s third LP Wind’s Dark Poem, which has been described as Phil Elverum’s “Black Metal” Album (with touches of Twin Peaks thrown in for good measure), has also managed to crawl under my skin. For those who only know Elverum as that guy from The Microphones who makes that lo-fi emo folksy ambient shit, this album will surprise those who though they had him pigeon-holed and presents a performer who is coming into his own. Dark brooding walls of guitar distortion ebb and flow around Elverum’s abstracted lyrics of nature and decay. The varying textures here better capture the full tone of his lyrical compositions then his previous, aesthetically narrower work.
