FEAR

Simple Minds back in the day were amazing. Before they went all poppy ‘Breakfast Club’ with ‘(Dont You) Forget About Me’, they were actually quite experimental and produced some dance punk gems, namely on their third album, ‘Empires and Dance’.

ZE

ZE Records, back in the late 70’s and early 80’s, released some of the best and most iconic No Wave and Mutant Disco tracks of the time. Not just from New York (such as the founders Partner, Lizzy Mercier Descloux) where the label was based, but all over. It pretty much died in the late [...]

SHIT ROBOT

Ireland’s very own Shit Robot (Marcus Lambkin) is currently downunder for his first Australian tour. Signed to DFA, Marcus has brought our three 12″ releases: “Wrong Galaxy” (2006), “Chasm” (2007) and just recently “Simple Things (Work It Out)” (2009), and has remixed artists like Simian Mobile Disco, Dondolo, The Juan MacLean, etc.
I’m a bit [...]

ITS COLD OUTSIDE

So I haven’t posted diddly for awhile, real sorry. I some how fumbled myself into a 9 to 5 job. Bazaar, I know but I’ve learnt some valuable adult life skills by working an honest job. For Example. The majority of middle aged people are the most ridiculous people alive. Vent. Ok, now that ive [...]

93° W

Songs are a Sydney based band (featuring members of New Zealand’s post-punk wailers This Night Creeps and Ela Stiles of sisterly-duo The Said Sos) that do only simple things. From their single-syllable handle to their hand-drawn artwork to their music itself; it all has to be simple. Their debut LP makes a smooth transition from [...]

DEEP INSIDE

Some gems for you here. All very highly recommended.
You probably would have heard this one before out on some big speakers. Skatt Bros cult classic ‘Walk The Night’ was, and still is, a dance floor bomb.
MP3: Skatt Bros – Walk The Night (12” Single)
Finally got around to picking up the latest RVNG of the [...]

TOSH

One of the best eclectic mixes I have heard in ages. As good as/better than most Optimo or Glimmers mixes. Huge props to Tosh Ohta (and to one of the best blogs around for the link, The Beat!).
Tracklisting:
# Happy Mondays – Wrote for Luck (Tribute edit) / Tribute
# Moloko – Sing It Back (Mousse T’s [...]

COMACAT

Highly anticipated track by German producer Tensnake, “Coma Cat” will be out very soon on Permanent Vacation so keep your eyes peeled very, very closely. Tensnake also just recently did a RA Podcast (# 187) which features “Coma Cat” in full – the mix is worth checking out.

PINK SKULL

Been meaning to post this for a while but have been very very slack (sorry RVNG). Pink Skull’s album “Endless Bummer” is one of my favourite releases for the year that was 2009. Julian Grefe is the mastermind behind Pink Skull and teamed up with Justin Geller (611 Records alum and co-conspirator) in 2004. It [...]

INDIAN OCEAN

Indian Ocean is the brain child of Luke Bacon and John Connell. The Sydney duo describe the piece as a meditative journey from deep sea to open air. Indian Ocean are currently recording their second release.

ARTHUR RUSSELL

Arthur Russell. Avant garde composer, disco pioneer, and buddhist cello player.
To celebrate the upcoming release of the radio documentary ‘Arthur Russell: Tapes of Thought’ by documentary maker John Connell, Waves at Night received two very rare, previously unreleased and unheard recordings of Arthur Russell – and you guys will be able to stream and hear [...]

TREV JACKSON

[ January 23, 2010; 10:00 pm; ]

TREVOR JACKSON.
Blurb taken from the Toff website:

The House deFrost is rather excited to present one of the world’s tastemakers of cool, Trevor Jackson. Chances are you may not have heard of him. However you will, unknowingly, be be familiar with his “output”. By day he is a cutting edge designer and has been responsible for [...]

LOVEFINGERS

[ January 16, 2010; 10:00 pm; ]

Andrew Hogge, otherwise known as Lovefingers, is currently down-under catching waves, eating pies, et. al. and also playing some gigs (hopefully some of you saw him at the Toff on NYE or that Picnic Warehouse party in Sydney). If you missed him (like I did since I was up in sunny QLD), then you should [...]

R.S.H.

Well, to be honest this is no real surprise but it is still a sad moment for Australian music. Rowland S. Howard (Boys Next Door, Birthday Party, and his much revered solo work) passed away this Wednesday due to cancer. Its no real secret the man was sick; at his last show in Melbourne he [...]
