Truth be told, I don’t have one single cousin in my family. Weird I know, but I still get by in life with relative ease. However, for one Friday night this week I shall have a cousin, well, everyone in that basement will have a cousin and his name will be Roy. I don’t care if you have never heard of this new estranged cousin but trust me, you are going to love him. Sure, he is a bit of a party boy who actually successfully co-ran the now defunct ‘Pop Your Funk’ monthly party with Brennan Green in NYC… but don’t let that stop you from having a good time.
Hailing from the great place of New York (as you could probably guess..), My Cousin Roy (aka Roy Dank) setup a string of re-edit releases on his Wurst Edits label in 2006, with help from such people as Runaway, Lee Douglas and Eamon Harkin. However, Wurst Edits has bitten the dust and as a result, grown into a new lifeform: The Wurst Music Company. The emphasise has shifted to more original work and as such, Roy has introduced new heads to the table: Chinatown bro Brennan Green, Neurotic Drum Band, Ulysses, Reade Truth, Native Underground and Nick Chacona (who Roy has teamed up with for the project ‘Beg to Differ’).
So, to the facts of the party: the Animals Dancing crew are throwing a great party in the Mercat basement this Friday and tickets can be purchased from Moshtix. Facebook page is here for more info and your social needs/participation. Supports on the night include Mr. Andee Frost, Otologic and that Tornado Wallace character who seems to be leaving us again to Europe (this is his last Animals Dancing party for a few months so should you even dare to miss such an event?)
My Cousin Roy – Bobbi’s Back
My Cousin Roy – Frozen
My Cousin Roy – In for It
Greyship Daviz – This Groove Is on the Loose (My Cousin Roys Way Past Due Mix)
NC – The Fear (Beg to Differ Remix)
There is also a Soundcloud mix prepared for the Aus shows, available to download for your ears, mind, body & soul. So it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to note Roy is also playing at the Civic in Sydney on the 21st of May, presented by the lovely folk at Picnic and Adult Disco. Details here.
THE WURST HAS YET TO COME….
