M|A|R|R|S & SUEÑO LATINO

M|A|R|R|S was a 1987 one-off recording act formed by the groups A.R. Kane and Colourbox, both on the iconic 4AD records label, which only released one commercial disc. Of the two pieces completed, one, “Anitina,” was an A.R. Kane track with drum programming by Colourbox’s Steve Young. The other, “Pump Up the Volume”, was a propulsive Martyn Young track constructed largely of samples, including one of A.R. Kane’s guitars.
For me this track comes across as the proto version of the very much Waves-Endorsed Andrew Weatherall remix of My Bloody Valentine’s danceable track, ‘Soon’. Heavy kick with a searing bent riff.

Manuel Göttsching’s ‘E2-E4′ is one of my classic chill/sleep tracks, and obviously damn influential too. Italo House act Sueño Latino had the idea in 1989 to cross it with classic 808 State vibes and 80′s House chords. Never has it sounded better. Manuel himself even came in on later re-releases to record his own guitar track. The Derrick May remixes of this are pretty amazing too.

I also just have to re-post this track in case it got lost in the depths of the blog. This is such an amazing Afro-Disco number and everybody needs to hear it.

P.S. The new Waves design is looking amazing! Bear with us in the next week or so for more details!
