So it’s that time of the year when we start to reflect (yet again).
Both JD and I have reflected.
Things that caught our ears in 2012.
We reflect them back upon you.
We urge you to listen to each and every one.

BONUS LATE ADDITION: I must say, I do feel somewhat rude for forgetting the brilliant Tambien 12″ that was sent to me by my dear Munich friend Valentino (of Marvin & Valentino). It wasn’t until until last night when Lovefingers played this track below that I knew I should have included it in my top tracks. Danced so much to this! Hola Val!
Other delights I indulged in were many releases from labels such as Emotional Response/Rescue, Lectric Sands, Future Times, Aficionado, ESP, L.I.E.S., Vibrations, Shevchenko, WT, P.P.U./Liger Vision/Superior Elevation….. e t a l . ..
Particular releases I also enjoyed were: ‘V/A – Blackdisco XI’, ‘Jahiliyya Fields – Unicursal Hexagram’, ‘Professor Genius – Hassan’, ‘Neurox – A Raving Night’ (reissue on Moustache), ‘Nao Katafuchi – Yumegoto’ + waaay more?. . . . .
However, one particular release I cannot wait to grab is the soon-to-be-released new Bell Towers 12″ – strong for the dancefloor, great dance impact. Idjut Boy’s take on the flip – stay peeled!

As you can see, very little of what really turned me on this year was released in 2012 (NO ZU and Romy). Digging brought the warmest and richest rewards for me.
But it really was a rich and brilliant year in Melbourne / Australian music, and people I just have to mention are:
Roland Tings (biggest success with a release on hot imprint 100% Silk),
NO ZU (best live shows, funnest aesthetic, friendliest guys),
Forces (going to be cult huge, Severed Heads style),
Zanzibar Chanel (best new talent with a big show to boot),
Kirin J Callinan (fucking brilliant and freakishly talented solo act destined to be the next true/real/timeless Aussie music underground icon).
Other big nods go to: Holy Balm, Absolute Boys, Kangaroo Skull, HTRK, New War, new Love Of Diagrams tracks live, Nun, P.C.P. / Larry Levels / Energy Inc. / Luke Brown, Romy, Michael Ozone, World’s End Press, Love Tempo, Nicci Reid for the bookings and running the show.
It was all very beautiful to slowly lose my hearing. x
