Ive posted about A Town In The City before but Im pretty sure that was a while ago now. For a band thats still finishing highschool, these guys sound damn good. I really hope some industry guy occasionally flicks through this blog, cos I’d love it if they got picked up early. Life For A Little Ghost is a little synth-infused, post punk number, definitely a high recommendation. Mr. K’s Arcade Invertables is a track from last year and just as good, with a bit of a TV On The Radio feel to it.
We also have another exclusive here at waves. Bachelor Of Arts, from right here in Melbourne, have been playing for a while now and are just about to release their debut album. A.M.P.M. is the new single off said album. If you like what you hear, theyre playing for the next few Wednesdays (FOR FREE) at the Old Bar on Johnston St and with some amazing bands. On the 16th its Breaker Morant and The Diamond Sea (go seeee), and supporting These New Puritans on the 14th of August.
Last up is a band I only recently got onto called Crystal Stilts, from Brooklyn. Id say they sound a bit like Joy Division but Im getting too much more of an upbeat sound out of the guitars. Maybe if Ian Curtis wasn’t quite so glum, this might be what they’d sound like. A dash of harmonica really lightens them up, in a good way.
Recently Ive been getting so much new music from around the place, that Ive barely had a chance to give it all a decent listen. So its always refreshing when a band can capture you in that small amount of time. New World Disorder by UK band Aspen Woods is one of those albums you know is going to be on high rotation as soon as you listen to it. If your a fan of any sort of dreamy, indie shoegaze, something in the vain of Ride, Slowdive or even early BRMC you will enjoy this. The tracks usually sit at around 8 minutes each, but never drone on and are consistently impressive.
The newest release from a band that was born from a million hits of acid and soaked in vocoder and mellowtron. Im am completely in love with Black Moth Super Rainbow at the moment. This has cemented that fact.
I remember hearing this track at least two years ago, seeing the Juggernauts at the Spanish Club in Melbourne for like $10. Man they exploded since then.
Polygon Palace, another Melbourne band that are going to be making an impact this year. Guitar in this track reminds me a tad of The Rapture. What do you reckon? Also, for those who are in Melbourne the next week or so, the boys are playing a few gigs at the Empress on the 21st (this Saturday) and the Arthouse on the 24th with Left Feels Right.
Big thankyou to all our regular readers out there! Just hit the most read blog on Hypem, if only for the moment. Keep any feedback coming on what we can do better, or what you already like.
First up is an absolute french classic. A fantastic duet by Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot. She has such a beautiful voice.
Second is a track taken from Para One’s soundtrack to the 2007 French film ‘La Naissance des Pieuvres’. The entire album is such a departure from his usual Dudun-Dun sound, and surprising just how well he is able to craft downtempo music as well as dancin tunes.
After lots of discussions, it has come to me that the best decision would be to stop thinking about releasing this DVD
All I can say is that I wasn’t told to stop by the Daft or EMI in anyways.
The problem is and will always be about the samples that the Daft Punk are using in the tracks. Copyrights owners of those samples won’t never let me release this DVD in peace.
So I took the decision to only create 4 examples of this DVD : one for me, of course, one for EMI, and two for the Daft themselves.
It will now be their decision to, one day or another, release this DVD
I would like to say, one last time, thank you to all fans whome sent me videos so I can do my work. It is all yours
But as a final gift to you, I’ll take a “rendez-vous”, here, on this site, on june the 14, at 9 PM French Time for a final surprise. After that, I’ll shutdown this website.
Mathieu”
Go hunt this DVD down anyway you can before its torn from torrent sites everywhere. Fly you fools.
Perhaps this could start a new post category here at waves. Whatever tracks have been bounding up your play count that particular week. Either it will give people something new to listen to, or simply remind them just how good that track was.
Also, how much does it suck when your net gets capped. Sit there for like half an hour on one page hitting refresh, walk away all like ’screw this Ill just go outside’, then realize your back at your desk hitting apple+R (or F5, whatever). I feel like Im in that south park episode where the internet just stops working…
