So they finally released something! However the quote “We were an art project that got out of hand, but now we are a band.” refering to their new album, kind of worries me. Will be interesting to see listeners reaction especially after the rumored scrape of an unreleased album.

A girl you really like asks you for advice on another boy, you die a little on the inside but you still give honest relationship advice. You know your an idiot for doing so but in your mind, you totally think, “fuck yes, if this was When Harry met Sally the audience just fucking aww’d me”.

If your a massive fan of The Cure then no doubt you have heard of And Also The Trees. They were semi found by Robert Smith after a couple of demo tapes were sent to him. I also think Smith co-produced some releases. They have that awesome 1980s classic goth/darkwave sound that JD and I have been going nuts over for awhile, Ill try and post so more related bands in the coming weeks

So I haven’t posted diddly for awhile, real sorry. I some how fumbled myself into a 9 to 5 job. Bazaar, I know but I’ve learnt some valuable adult life skills by working an honest job. For Example. The majority of middle aged people are the most ridiculous people alive. Vent. Ok, now that ive written something bitter and without context, lets get started.

Nash The Slash is the amazing invisible man look alike Canadian from the late 70’s who I think is still kicking around today. He plays electric mandolins and whaling synth sounds. A no-wave, punk, synth, lo-fi magician. Before you listen to these two songs I recommend watching this as your first impression.

MP3: NASH THE SLASH – WOLF

MP3: NASH THE SLASH – REACTOR NO. 2

We all like looking pensive from time to time and i couldn’t think of a better sound track to do it. Well maybe Prokofiev. However this is still pretty cool. I wouldn’t recommend listening to this if it was 4am and your home alone drinking gin. This song features on the titled album ’June 1st, 1974′ . The release is a live recording that mainly consists of Kevin Ayers and John Cale. However Brian Eno and Nico do feature for this amazing cover of The Doors ‘the end’.

MP3: BRIAN ENO AND NICO – THE END (THE DOORS COVER)

A friend of mine was recently offered to do a photoshoot to pose as Lydia Lunch that is to be mass printed on a t-shirt. Besides the fact that this is pretty awesome I thought i would post up some Teenage Jesus and The Jerks, Founded by Lydia Lunch and James Chance. Not the most laid back, easy listening music but I cant stop listening to No Wave.

MP3: TEENAGE JESUS AND THE JERKS – ORPHANS

Its always nice to to hear about people in love from France. However if your cold and alone like me and have discovered self harm, please pause for thought. There is some good from romance besides unexpected bundles of joy and herpes. One being this band, Unison. I posted a video on these guys awhile back and have been holding onto an interview and track for awhile. The feedback has been incredible actually, i really expect some great things from these guys. Some droning bass and haunting vocals will always be a treat for the ears. Please tell me what you guys think and check their other stuff out weaerunison.com

So, where are you guys from and who are you?
Hello. We are Unison, a french band from Niort, a little city in the far west of France, between Nantes and Bordeaux. For now the line-up is Melanie (singer), Julien (singer, guitar and programming) and now we have a drummer, Sebastien, who is awesome.

How did Unison start?
Unison began during the fall of 2008. I (Julien) was seeking a female singer by the help of a website (Audiofanzine). Melanie answered to the advertisement I wrote. We quickly fell in love.

How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is the result of our lives. We want it both sensual/sexual, dark, groovy, noisy, melodic, plain, loud… very loud.

What inspired you to make music together?
We HAVE to make music. It’s a vital need. We are inspired by our lives and the need to create something, to find a way to communicate and share our feelings, even if no one care.

What direction would you like to head towards?
The direction will be randomly defined. It depends on our future experiences. We are totally ready to travel/move to anywhere. We are ready to let our music become what it wants to be.

Are you after a new sound or something else?
We don’t care to find a new sound. But we don’t care either to be a part of any defined style or scene. We want to stay totally free. Free to melt any kind/styles of music that we like. We already have some very different tracks. Some of them are fast and catchy, some others are more ambient and aerial (like the 3 tracks on our myspace). But many people told us that we have our own sound.

Do you guys play gigs in any regular circuits or scenes? who have you played with?
We started to play live shows a few months ago. We’ve just done 3 live shows since we exist. We played with Matt Elliot (Third Eye Foundation), Lentonia Records bands (E.D.H, Hypo, Video Love…) and local bands/musicians.

The song Outside is really dramatic and creepy, how did the that song come to life?
I wrote this track in 30 minutes, every parts included (beat, guitar, synths, vocals).
Sincerely, I think Outside came directly from my subconscious. Like David Lynch say, I’ve just catched “the fish” (the idea that floats in the air).

What would you consider your inspirations?
They are numerous. Life & death, love & hate, beauty & bestiality, sadness & joy, archaism & modernism…

Pepsi or Coke?
Definitely Coke. But it’s bad. Coke is evil. Fuck consumerism, money & capitalism.
We hate money.

What do you have planned for the future? Album? tours?
We are making 2 ep’s for Lentonia Records (Paris) & Matteblack Editions (Los Angeles). One will be digitally released and the other will be a vinyl 7” ep, both in the fall of 2009. We will do some shows very soon in Paris and other French cities. Go to http://weareunison.com to know where and when. Tours are not planned yet but it’s something we definitely gonna do. An album will be released in 2010, maybe with Matteblack & Lentonia joined together.

Finally, how long do you think its going to take until the world falls in love with Unison?
Love is what we want to share with everyone. We don’t know how long it’s going to take but we are completely ready for that… except if the world collapses before that.

I hate friend requests from bands on myspace because usually its some hip hop due who loves to mix in classical music with hard hitting lyrics about how hard life is on the street in North Balwyn.
But I’m still dickish enough not to click on the option ‘block band requests’ because that happy little ‘you have a friend request!’ just makes me feel all good on the inside. This is probably a sign that i need to get the fuck away from this internet but ‘the google’ is stalking me i swear.

So i was quiet taken back when Unison popped up and i have been frantically trying to get in contact with them via email so i can get some tracks up for you… but with no luck. All i can figure out so far is that they are from the states, sound awesome and are fucking mysterious. So in the mean time this video will have to do, fairly cool though.

If you love telepathe and slow haunting beats i highly recommend a listen.

Check them out here

In contrast to last week it would seem i haven’t lived life all that much and have just been ‘that old chestnut’ siting around being wistful and reflective, it is winter after all. In celebration of this forward thinking melancholy i would like to bring to you The Process.
Now, JD has posted these guys before but we have been getting requests for more Melbourne/Australian bands and over the next couple of weeks i shall try and do this. The Process have been gaining notoriety for awhile now and for good reason.
They are no doubt in my mind the finest band to come out of Melbourne in a while. Audience reactions have been amazing and not just in the sense of ‘omgomgawesome’ more in the way of imaginative and intelligent thought out sounds, which is great to hear for a change. Especially if your sick of going to gigs with 400 people hailing the DJ, which is fun and i love but can get repetitive. With echoing, droning, distorted, thick and lovely sounds, The Process will charm you indeed.
They will be playing a residency at Newtown Workers Club in Fitzroy (formally the Rob Roy) from the 2nd to the 30th Of July with various supports like Breaker Morant and more special guests to be announced.

*edit*
It just come to my attention that the names of the tracks were incorrect. Please read the following message for clarification. Sorry everyone!

“…don’t believe the myth about budget steam cleaning services, those songs you posted come up on itunes as weird names for some reason, the first one is called ‘Catharsis’ and the second is ‘Crystal Bible’…”

I was having this interesting discussion today with a dear friend Odette about how you either have to much time on your hands or not enough. And now that i have a white collar job with an income (strange) i can’t help but think in the back of my heady wed that, ‘this is all going to fall apart soon’ and on some level i kind of hope it does. If anything I’ve learnt in life (broad statement) is that tragedy and agony is a good thing. I’m not a Narcissist but i do enjoy cynicism, however it does make for something interesting to keep you going. I’m going of the topic here… What I’m really trying to say is that, should i get married now or wait for a wistful melancholy moment with a girl like Lauren Bacall? DISCUSS.

Ok, Seeings though this is a music blog I’m going to go all sans ego and actually do a post…

IV
I’ve always really loved bands with melodies influenced by old film scores with subtle obscurities. IV (four) from Paris really have that cinematic quality with some lovely mystical disco mixed in. If you like transcendental journeys via meditation and ritual dance i highly recommend this as the sound track. If your into Danger or Fuzzz your probably going to be hard romantic for these guys for a long while.
