Farewell

FAREWELL WAVES AT NIGHT

It is time for me (JD) to say goodbye to Waves At Night. Patch and I begun the journey back in early 2007, so really, it’s been a long time in the making. I wish Patch the best on his journeys forward, but for me it’s back to hoarding and keeping my OCD organised tune… (read the rest?)

WORLD’S END PRESS DEEP WINTER MIX

Leaving my mixes on shuffle the other day, I came back across this little champagne baby by Melbourne boys World’s End Press. Full of house, and pops right in the middle with the amazing ‘I Don’t Know Anybody (Soul Mix) by Black Box. Mix posted back here in July 2010. Tracklist: Intro / Alone (Paradise)… (read the rest?)

EYヨ

The highly talented and creative Japanese born vocalist/(Dada) visual artist, Yamatsuka Eye, is down for the Sugar Mountain Festival in Melbourne and also for this years Sydney Festival. He is most known for founding the experimental rock band Boredoms in early 1986, a progression from noise band Hanatarash created by Eye, Zeni Geva and Mitsuru… (read the rest?)

GET HIGH, WEIRDO

As you know, the new follow-up album “Psychic Welfare” to 2009′s “Endless Bummer” has dropped from one of Wave’s favourite Philadelphia groups, Pink Skull, as covered in a past post. Julian Grefe (of Pink Skull) has put together a tripped-out, psyched, experimental mix – full of different colours and tones, weirdness and adventure ; totalling… (read the rest?)

P.C.P – SHEBEEN MIX

A sub-genre I had never properly been introduced to, but is essentially an amalgamation of two of my favourites, is initiated here through an outstanding Afro/Tribal-Dark Dance mix courtesy of Waves Fav, Luke Brown (P.C.P., Negativ Magick, Leslie Salvador). It’s always really refreshing to hear something that actually feels dusty, dug up and like a… (read the rest?)

MIXTAPE #003

One of the most exciting bands to be rumbling away in the Melbourne underground music scene are No Zu. Australian label/genre coiner New Weird Australia put it best with their write up on the band upon their collaboration and release together: NO ZU first came to the attention of the label with their debut release,… (read the rest?)

IOP MIXTAPE FOR SIBERIA

A mixtape that is definitely worthy of a listen done by Indian Ocean Productions (as blogged before) for their good friends at the Midnight Juggers label Siberia is now up on the label’s Soundcloud page. As described on the Indian Ocean Productions website: The mix is a dark magic journey from a pleasant poet filled… (read the rest?)

MIXTAPE #002

It’s the underlying element that lifts a track up to a monster groove. It’s the spine of the song. It can be deep and dark, or it can be grinning right along with you. It’s the slap bassline. 1. Move On (Mutant Dance Move) – Fashion A B-Side from one of the 80′s best forgotten… (read the rest?)

∴† DARK POOL †∴

Its that time again. New Negativ Magick mix has dropped, exclusive to Waves At Night. Loyal readers will be well aware of these guys (here & here), and this time they’ve dropped the track anonymity and provided us with a tracklist. The Dark Pool mix flows full of brainwashed fleshy beats, inky black lyrics, ebbing… (read the rest?)

TOSH

One of the best eclectic mixes I have heard in ages. As good as/better than most Optimo or Glimmers mixes. Huge props to Tosh Ohta (and to one of the best blogs around for the link, The Beat!). Tracklisting: # Happy Mondays – Wrote for Luck (Tribute edit) / Tribute # Moloko – Sing It… (read the rest?)

INDIAN OCEAN

Indian Ocean is the brain child of Luke Bacon and John Connell. The Sydney duo describe the piece as a meditative journey from deep sea to open air. Indian Ocean are currently recording their second release. MP3: Indian Ocean – Indian Ocean

MIXTAPE #001

Ok, time for the very first Waves mixtape in series I’d like to continue with a few of my favourite genres to give you a bit of an introduction; the rest of the hunting is up to you. Not all of these would be considered totally shoegaze, but delve a bit into Dream-pop and noise… (read the rest?)
