FEAR

Simple Minds back in the day were amazing. Before they went all poppy ‘Breakfast Club’ with ‘(Dont You) Forget About Me’, they were actually quite experimental and produced some dance punk gems, namely on their third album, ‘Empires and Dance’.

COMACAT

Highly anticipated track by German producer Tensnake, “Coma Cat” will be out very soon on Permanent Vacation so keep your eyes peeled very, very closely. Tensnake also just recently did a RA Podcast (# 187) which features “Coma Cat” in full – the mix is worth checking out.

FORMERLY…

I’ve been on an intense binge diet of The Artist when he was formally known as Prince. Everyone knows his hits, Kiss, Raspberry Beret, Purple Rain etc. but his early back catalogue reveals gold that far eclipses his later number ones. These tracks have literally been on constant rotation keeping me sane and dancing for [...]

MANHEAD….

New offerings from Relish in the form of Headman. The A side track Dreampieces comes with an edit from the ‘man’ himself and also receives a dark, murky re-rub from Japanese producer Zongamin.
On the flip is an equally impressive track with dominating vocal surges from Sydney’s Cassette Kids frontwoman Katrina Noorbergen. I highly recommend [...]

I ALWAYS CRY AT WEDDINGS

I was having this interesting discussion today with a dear friend Odette about how you either have to much time on your hands or not enough. And now that i have a white collar job with an income (strange) i can’t help but think in the back of my heady wed that, ‘this is all [...]

LOST IN MUSIC

It’s extremely hard to follow up such an epic post as Patch’s but here goes…
Crazy Penis (or Crazy P as they are now known in the easily offended UK) have always delivered quality releases whether it be through their own music or with numerous remixes. They have continually nailed the funk/disco/porno sound and their latest [...]

RAD BEACON

I was never a massive fan of Dan Deacon, i loved his sound but found it all just kinda went in ear and out the other, just party music right? It was only after seeing him live at Summertones last week that i really “got” it. Setting up IN the middle of the crowd, talking [...]

LOOKING AHEAD

There’s a score of exciting stuff coming out in the coming months that are getting me all in a tussle…
The Juan MacLean’s new LP, The Future Will Come drops April 14 and if this track is anything to go by it should be nice as. Sounds very much like a DFA/LCD cocktail spiked with a [...]

A BETTER YEAR

Not much has been really catching my ears this year that hasn’t already been covered (Whitest Boy Alive, Animal Collective, Dent May) but here are a few tracks, new and old, that have been demanding my attention.
Harlem Shakes are a band whose debut i was eagerly anticipating and am a little surprised at what they [...]

NEW SINGLE FROM SINGLE

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the likes of Riot in Belgium but it seems one of it’s members, Beni Single, has been working in the shadows on a new track for the upcoming ‘Relish Compilation EP Volume 2′, due out in June, from Relish Recordings. Could this be a new direction for [...]
