The reason I have loved DFA so sincerely for such a long time is because they have always stayed true to their sound, always consistently pushing it to new levels, releasing/discovering some amazing acts (alot through their Death From Abroad offshoot label) and never losing out to over commercialization of the brand. Mock & Toof are two dudes from London who release tunes on the aforementioned DFAbroad label (plus a few others). Honestly I didnt really dig these guys until I heard their new 12″ Underwater, a catchy bass driven number with some great laid back vocals over the top. Also on the release is a demo acoustic version, which Im actually liking better than the original with the breathy vocals lending itself so well to the sound. Since this has only just been released and I dont want to leak, support these guys and buy it from maybe Beatport or Juno rather than nicking it.

Another DFA signing, Runaway, will be a duo I think we’ll be hearing alot more of in the new year. They’ve just released their new track ‘Brooklyn Club Jam’, which is full of jungle drums, chicago house keys, acid loops and is the sound of that moment at a club where you start to forget who you are, where you are and get completely lost in in the music washing over you. Again, buy this track online to support DFA, but heres a taster with the Brennan Green version, which keeps the vibe but lightens the whole mood up a whole lot.

Ok, one more space disco tune from German producer Tensnake. Should tide you over for a while.

Oh, and did anyone else go to that Lifelounge Some Type of Wonderful exhibiton last night in Melbourne? What did you think?
