Black Van is Kris Menace and KoweSix (1/2 of Moonbootica). One could say this is one little exciting side-project, as the boys are now bringing out their first release “Yearning” on DFA (avail. 20th of Feb). The release comes backed with a Emperor Machine remix of the titled track. “Yearning” is quite nice, still growing on [...]
Brought to my attention by Canyon’s latest BIS mix, Australia’s own DFA/Modular signing, The Canyons, have remixed Tame Impala yet again.
MP3: Tame Impala – 41 Mosquitoes Flying in Formation (Canyons 41 Mojitos Poolside Dub) (requested to be removed)
Still on the topic of Modular, one of their latest signings, Adelaide three-piece disco-outfit The Swiss, have just [...]
Ireland’s very own Shit Robot (Marcus Lambkin) is currently downunder for his first Australian tour. Signed to DFA, Marcus has brought our three 12″ releases: “Wrong Galaxy” (2006), “Chasm” (2007) and just recently “Simple Things (Work It Out)” (2009), and has remixed artists like Simian Mobile Disco, Dondolo, The Juan MacLean, etc.
I’m a bit [...]

The blog is still getting worked on but I just really have the need to post some tracks. I’ll explain quickly what the deal is with the blog. Basically the blog was located at ‘wavesatnight.com’ but now it lives at ‘wavesatnight.com/blog’. It will have a new design for the blog software we are using (WordPress) [...]
Love of Diagrams, Melbourne, have just released their third album, Nowhere Forever, and it is amazing. Coming from a band thats roots lie in the sounds of NY No Wave and UK Post Punk, that band has taken these sounds and grown and developed them, fusing more recently with 80’s/90’s Shoegaze and Dream-Pop, to create [...]
After a launch of launch of epic proportions, Controversy is back next week with a bigger badder line up. DJ KAOS (Rong/DFA) will be playing his only Melbourne show with local show stopper KNIGHTLIFE providing support.

Canyons are fast risers. Signed to that Aussie label, the Sydney based duo (formerly Perth) have just recently signed a deal with DFA too, due to release a 12″ in July. How to describe this track? Its got a touch of balearic, with a dark and low pulsating bassline, and a haunting horn creeping through [...]
Time for another Song Of The Day. I was going to include a track off the new Passion Pit album because Ive been digging that recently, but its just too sugary and I know I’ll just be completely sick of it in two weeks time, like MGMT.
So on with the time tested goodness.
In the burgeoning [...]
This Friday Granny has a mighty storm brewing in her fine tea. Jacques Renault, one half of Brookyn duo Runaway (DFA / REKIDS / I’m a Cliche / Wurst Edits) will be making an appearence at Sorry Grandma!, alongside UK’s dub house & deep space disco guru Trus’Me – this night won’t disappoint.
Jacques has also [...]
OK, this is a warning… You must sample/play/download/lick/fuck/etc. every song/edit/rmx that I have put into this post as it’s all gold. News wise… we now have Twitter so follow us on that bad boy. I think it’s social internet v3 or some shit so we may as well embrace it and not live like a [...]
Future Music Fest is shortly arriving in Melbourne (8th of March) and things kick off early with an early sideshow at Prince on the 27th of Feb. Brazilian electroclash-rockers CSS will be out in full sexxxy force with support from avant-pop duo YACHT (Jona Bechtolt, former member of The Blow and newcomer Claire Evans); who [...]
There’s a score of exciting stuff coming out in the coming months that are getting me all in a tussle…
The Juan MacLean’s new LP, The Future Will Come drops April 14 and if this track is anything to go by it should be nice as. Sounds very much like a DFA/LCD cocktail spiked with a [...]
Glossy I have to admit I dont know too much about. Belonging to the same afro-beat disco school as anything on the Label Permanent Vacation or DFA at the moment it seems. ‘Burning Love’ has all the little tricks; a deep throbbing bass line, soft echo vox, sharp hats. Very smooth.
MP3: Glossy – Burning [...]
