Ahh. Gush gush gush. I had to rewatch DiG! after hearing the news. Such a good film.

This post is also quite important for zac (oscar milde) and I, as we would like to take this opportunity to officially denounce our faith. Well…at least half of it. I just dont feel it in my bones anymore. Just the saturation of fluorescence and the feeling like I never really hear anything new and fresh. Just the same old processed cheese compressed electro remixes etc etc. I will still always love The Presets, Cut Copy, Daft Punk etc, but I know the end is nigh and feel the need to escape the ‘jockish cult that surrounds the genre’ as Guy Blackman happened to put it. So, hopefully from now on Ill be trying to post as much more diverse sounds as I can for anyone who’s willing to listen and have a chat about what they think. Whether its anything new or just something thats just good. Theres always going to be the occasional DFA track (because I still love them) and Presets remix cos you always have to have something to dance to, huh.
Anyway, thats my rant for the night. So…yeah. Dig, in my humble opinion, the best track off the new album ‘My Bloody Underground’, and get tickets asap whenever they get properly announced.

Rattle ‘n roll

First off, before I commence the music write-up wizbang stuff, I just want to say Fred Falke was amazing. If you missed him in Melbourne (or any other gig for that matter) then I am very disappointed with you… unless you had a rad-ass excuse. But I doubt that. Live bass over ‘Intro’ - enough said!

To get started I’m introducing Act Yo Age, signed to Ajax’s label ‘Sweat It Out‘. With new remixes on the horizon: Franz & Shape on Relish, Larry Tee’s new single and one appearing on Shir Khan’s Exploited label. New EP will be out early July on Sweat It Out. Very hot prospect so keep your eyes peeled.

Oh, get some more Act Yo Age material at redthreat.

As you know The Presets are cooking up quite a storm at the moment, with their Aussie tour selling like hot cakes. But bigger news is that their second album Apocalypso has just come out, well yesterday to be exact. You know the drill; smash that piggybank, gather up the pennies and use them to buy this bad boy. Highly recommend it and you will see why.

Now for some love from France. SebastiAn’s highly anticipated EP (staring the much hyped track “Motor”; posted here) is about to drop on Ed Rec, and trust me, the three tracks sound bloody fantastic.

Still continuing on with the French music, I recently just got onto a duo named Pillage staring Florian and Frederic. I got in touch with Frederic earlier this week:

“Flo and I met when we were doing radio about three years ago. He has a Rock show but plays electro, and I used to have a hip hop show, but played electro too. Flo has a more underground background, he used to play at free parties and stuff, but got bored. I had a more hip hop background.

We started mixing together by accident, i needed help and he was there. it turned out pretty good, and Electrosexual invited us to play for his birthday.
After we had to split due to our respective activities, and we met again in Paris a few weeks ago and decided to create a band called Pillage, to make our collaboration official.

Our objective is to play in clubs where ever we can and have fun playing our tunes.”

If you are a sucker for that classic, raunchy synth sound then definitely check them out. They’ve done two remixes for UK’s Old School Reunion and French beauty Nina; also have done their own little number called “Die 4 Ur Ass”. Currently they are working on a live set for parties in summer so expect something promising coming up very soon.

Islands have always been a great indie act from Montreal that I have been following after hearing their track “Rough Gem” on the telly. If you are a Unicorn fan then you will instantly love Islands. Take my word for it. Make sure you check out their first album “Return to the Sea” and also look out for their second album “Arm’s Way” out May 20.

Still Going, one of our favourite groups on DFA Records, have just done a magnificent remix for Love Motion Disco. It’s dreamy, it’s pleasant, it’s inviting and yet so simple at the same time. The same could also be said for their remix of Force of Nature’s “Transmute”. I really could listen to this all day.

Goldfrapp’s new single “Happiness” has been given the treatment by our wonderful Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve. You know you love it. And if you really do, just remember there is more Wizardry at this post.

Phew!

Only Fools And Horses

Finally got my grubby little paws on the limited release of the Spectacle Wins 12″ by Only Fools And Horses. The track is such a funky, live bass driven little number you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a new DFA release, but it’s actually the work of the two heads of the Permanent Vacation label, Tom Bioly and Benji Fröhlich. It’s followed up on the flipside by a fantastic remix by one of my favorite up and coming artists, Holy Ghost. Hold On was awesome, so was the Panthers Remix, and now this. Keep an eye on both the Permanent Vacation label, and the boys from Holy Ghost. Will no doubt be seeing/hearing alot more in 2008.

Bot’Ox

Repost

Der creme auf la musik internationalez. The tagline for the DFA label offshoot ‘Death From Abroad’. Essentially it is an attempt to make it easier for music lovers to access international releases. First releasing tracks for Mock & Toof, Death From Abroad is now about to release two new tracks from the French duo Bot’Ox. Ive gotta say I quite like these. Its different. I want something that will test me a bit. Not the same old re-hashed shit. Some might say this is slightly re-hashed. But to you I say “Balderdash!”. ‘Babylon by Car’ is bubbly, buzzy, fuzzy, and just plain good. Ive drunk a bit of goon so these tunes are going down quite well. But I remember liking them a few weeks ago when I got them so it must be true.

A love affair with Hercules & Love Affair

Looking for something a bit different? Those of you who seem to never let anything slip past their ears may already have latched onto these guys, but this is just a recent discovery for me. Hercules and Love Affair. Im immediately drawn to them due to the guest vocals of Antony of Antony and the Johnsons on the single ‘Blind’. I really cant flick through my itunes without settling back onto it. His warbling voice warms my eardrums. Basically Hercules and Love Affair are a new act to be signed to DFA, with their debut album dropping very soon. It seems DFA have really been my saviour from the current bombardment of hypercolour infused, compression laden, overdriven electro producers/remixes that fly everywhere these days. Don’t get me wrong, I like the sound, but its just when the place gets full of tail riders that it starts to annoy me. Anyway, this post is about these guys. Enjoy. Oh, and check out the other new DFA band Bot’Ox. Nice.

Holy shit! It’s good!

Holy Ghost! are my newest band to watch. Was previously Foals, after Late of the Pier, and ages ago The Juggernauts. But I forsee big things in the future for these guys. Recently signed by the label DFA and dropping this killer single ‘Hold On’. DFA have actually been releasing some amazing stuff recently with Shit Robot, New Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem……I’m hooked.
