Mogi Grumbles hails from Michigan, USA, but is pushing the sound again, albeit on an amped up scale. Everything he has touched, everything I have heard, would make me lose control on big speakers. Very much recommended for fans of full bodied house.

Innervision’s Dixon has an unofficial release on the obscure Philomena label which features two great edits – Romanthony’s ‘The Wanderer’ (contains kick drum and bassline sample from ‘Martin Buttrich – Hunted’) and on the flip is Lykki Li’s ‘Dance Dance Dance’. Massive. Try and find this although I think the 12″ quite sold out.

From the people that brought us the Discos Capablanca label comes this new offshoot. Los Massieras is a re-edit project formed by two Berlin DJs aiming to bring “a fresh approach to the art of bastardization.” ‘Boogity Boogity Boogity’ is their first EP, which also launches the new label Banamania. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I love a nice ripe banana and this release is no exception (and no readers, that remark isn’t suggesting anything fishy…). Mutant discooooowww.

Coming up this Friday 28th May at New Guernica: Jacques Renault. This is one gig I am well and truly excited about. Here’s the bio:

Jacques Renault was a post-punk Washington, D.C. native who moved to Chicago in 1997 to continue his studies of viola, but in turn got an education in dance music. Tapping into the well-established Drum ‘n’ Bass scene, he held a residency at Smart Bar and became a buyer at the legendary Gramaphone Records. This broad, raw exposure to House lead him straight back to the classics of Disco and to its heart, New York City, where he landed in 2002.

As a DJ, Jacques has held residencies at New York’s famed venues Happy Endings, APT, Tribeca Grand and 205 Club, and has been a guest around the globe in venues like Tokyo’s Womb, Rio’s D-edge and London’s Fabric and Plastic People. With his remixes, edits, original tracks and collaborative project Runaway, he has released music on internationally acclaimed New York labels DFA, Chinatown, RVNG INTL, Italians Do It Better, Editions Disco, and Wurst, as well as Tokyo’s Mule Musiq, Parisian imprint I’m A Cliché, and London/Berlin’s Rekids.

Along with his Runaway partner Marcos Cabral, Jacques has launched the new label On The Prowl, and 2010 will see the debut of Runaway Live around the globe. Jacques is also producing other artists, and co-produced (with Richard X and Chris Zane) the forthcoming debut album of The Hundred In The Hands for Warp Records.

There we go. Now you’re versed. Basically, Jacques creates/spins the best tunes this side of the disco revival, both solo, and as part of Runaway. First off his ‘One’s and Two’s Mix’ contains some of the freshest beats to grace my ears. Second up is a track featured near the start of the mix, and is an absolute dark tribal dancefloor destroyer.

Melbourne’s World’s End Press are back already with a new single, Golden Child. Can I just say that for a relatively up-and-coming local band, these dudes have some seriously slick and cemented sound. Everyone’s been touting them as the ‘next big thing’, and Im going to have to jump on that boat too. The remix of this track is pure, liquid bliss.

Right off the bat I’m going to warn you and say “do not sleep on this post”. NYC-based group Midnight Magic is going to be a very hot prospect for ‘10 – that’s my tip. You may have seem them pop up quite mysteriously on Tim Sweeney’s BIS top 2009 or various shows his done. I was immediately drawn to “Drop Me a Line”, the first track I heard from the group and without thought I was hooked. It was just so refreshing to hear a fundamentally well-made disco track (yet the word ‘disco‘ gets thrown around so easily these days but it really is a top-notch disco track).

The group has three past members of Brooklyn’s Hercules & Love Affair: Andrew Raposo, Morgan Wiley * and Carter Yasutake. There’s also Tiffany Roth, Caito Sanchez, Nick Roseboro, Jason Disu and Max Goldman.

* must also be noted Andrew and Morgan were in the now defunct Dim Mak band Automato – which Alex and Nick of Holy Ghost! were in as well

So on the horizon, Midnight Magic has two 12″s coming out on one of my favourite labels, Permanent Vaction. ‘Beam Me Up’ will be the first release, featuring remixes from Gavin Russom and Jacques Renault. ‘Drop Me A Line’ will follow, including Juan MacLean and Holy Ghost! remixes (looking forward to this release). DFA house engineer Eric Broucek (aka. Babytalk) has been mixing the groups tracks, which may share a striking resemblance to Hercules material, which, in fact, Eric mixed. Well to be frank, he has done a load of DFA stuff.

Oh and speaking of Automato (refer to the asterisk), here is a remix they did a while ago for Bloc Party:
