VER-TI-GO

I come bearing great news…

He brought you arguably the best house track “Intro” (with Falke of course).

His first release on Roulé (French house label set up by Thomas Bangalter, one half of Daft Punk and managed by Gildas Loaëc) was “Vertigo” - a very tight tight tightttt french-house release.

“Music Sounds Better With You” (also on Roulé) - dare I say more???
(he was in ‘Stardust’, the one time project with Thomas and vocalist Benjamin Diamond that did this amazing one-time hit)

His the bravest man alive. Like, far out.. who would take on DJ Assault? Not me that’s for sure…

You would’ve guessed that the man is of course ALAN BRAXE. YES BRAXEY IS COMING!!! Lock the kids up and venture out to Basement 257 (Q-Bar) on October 24th to see the man do his magic. With great support acts to lend a hand on the night: Miami Horror, Harris Robotis, Ooh-Ee and the Kablam! boys.

Sydney gig details announced soon. Tickets @ $25 with only 500 available.. If you are stuck for a ticket just email the blog, we will do the rest.

Howlin’ no more

Grammy Award winning rock band Wolfmother has announced the resignation of bass/keyboard player Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett effective immediately.

Singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale now plans to find other musicians over coming months and to then begin making a new Wolfmother album.

Wolfmother toured the world virtually non-stop through 2006 and early 2007 on the back of their acclaimed self titled debut album. Longstanding frictions within the group then lead them to take an extended break during the second half of 2007 to consider their future.

In early 2008 they regrouped and worked on new material. Initially encouraged by those sessions, they committed to a handful of live shows to ‘road test’ the new songs and to try to find a way forward.

Those dates concluded with a headlining slot last Sunday at the Splendour In The Grass Festival in Australia’s Byron Bay where rumours circulated about possible lineup changes.

Following that show Chris Ross decided to announce that he was leaving the band due to irreconcilable personal and musical differences. Myles Heskett has also decided to leave the band rather than continuing as part of a changed lineup. The pair has been working together on songs for some time and they plan to focus their energies on that new project in the future.

Wolfmother’s self titled debut album is one of the most successful Australian rock releases this century. It has sold over 1.3 million copies and received multiple ARIA Awards and a Grammy – making them the first Aussie band to receive such an award in 25 years. Other highlights for the group have included appearances at just about every major music festival in the world, sharing stages with Pearl Jam, The Who and The Strokes, and a special performance inducting the legendary Led Zeppelin into the UK’s Rock’n'Roll Hall of Fame.

Andrew Stockdale, Myles Heskett and Chris Ross will make no public statements at this time except to say that they are each really looking forward to making their new music over the years ahead.

In the meantime they simply ask all Wolfmother fans to please understand that in spite of their best efforts over a long period of time, they just could not find a harmonious way to work together and that has lead to the decisions announced today.

MENAC3

One new. Two old. Kris Menace remixes; all should be heard at least once.  Keep your eyes peeled for a Metronomy remix aswell, coming out very very soon.

But for me, nothing is matching the quality of his past remixes of these tracks: “North American Scum” and “Something 4 Porno”. Oh, and who could forget the remix with Lifelike of “I Feel Music in Your Heart”. Gold.

July 26th = ESSENTIAL MIX TIME!!! I care because this Essential Mix will be done by Kris Menace & Falkie!! Bring it on!

[D][L][G]

I’m sitting here on a Sunday night, not excited at the prospect of going back to Uni tomorrow but some things can’t be helped. I’ve been in a huge French-touch mood for weeks now, (I have a habit of listening to music in cycles) which I should start to post up as French Fridays (which will return soon, I know I’ve said it thousands of times but it will return; I got good shizz lined up).

Anyway, DJ DLG came to the scene in 1993 where he was DJ’ing and promoting but it wasn’t till 2002 he was introduced to Dave Armstrong (you guys out there should know his wonderful track ‘Make Your Move’). Here DLG was introduced to Eyezcream, a brilliant record label that saw future releases from DLG (the ‘Epiphany’ series) and two early Lifelike releases! I shouldn’t forget to mention that DLG has his own label Huge Records, featuring many high quality releases.

DJ DLG brings the French sound to a new level, which I’m finding hard to classify as a genre on its own. I guess it could be called “disco-house”, that’s more heavier, ah whatever, it doesn’t matter… But what ever it is, it is funky/souped up and still reminds me of that old Parisian sound I adore.

A track that’s a perfect example of what I’ve been talking about that I’m putting up for you readers to hear is the A-Side of DLG’s ‘Epiphany EP Part 4′ titled “Your Eyes”. The vocal is very luscious, and the rest of the track just follows beautifully; it just works so well. You can really hear DLG’s passion for French-house here, and in the rest of his tracks that follow.

Just for any of you slowpokes out there, I posted a cleverly done re-edit of his of a Pnau track a while back so make sure you check that out here if you have missed it! Check his official website for more up-to-date news.

UNDERGROUND

Das Pop is a Belgian band, founded in the town of Ghent. A few bells might be ringing - their 2007 track “Fool for Love” was red hot, receiving remix action from the likes of SebastiAn, Aeroplane, Yuksek and Brodinski.

Das Pop’s latest tune “Underground” was featured on the rejected Fabriclive mix that Justice did not so long ago. “Underground” has a warming late 80s/early 90s vibe to it and just sounds so soothing, so simple. Take a listen to it here.

And as expected, there is going to be some remixes floating around. There’s already been a Kids Gloves remix in the air so go on a search for that one. Even our very own Van She have chipped in to produce a nice ‘clubby’ version of “Underground but I got some questions to ask: Has Busy P changed his ways and gone all Crookers on us? Is Van She Tech releasing remixes under their band name of just Van She and totally ditching Tech? Or maybe this is just due to poor tagging of tracks hmmm! Whats the story here readers?

MUSIC TALKING

I wish I heard more stuff these days like the track that’s contained in this post. My favourite French producer Fred Falke has just churned out a brilliant remix, something that reminds me of the old French-house/French-touch days, something so funky yet simplistic. The track ‘Music Talking’ is done by DJ Roland Clark (check out his Myspace top friends HA!!!) and The Montanas.

In addition, Falke also did a fine remix of Eric Prydz’s “Pjanoo” that will be released soon. Catch a glimpse of it at KBC.

Please please please purchase the “Music Talking” remix. Do it HERE. Or at Beatport.

KANSAS!

I never thought I would be posting a track by, dare I say it, Sneaky Sound System. But alas, some kick ass people like Lifelike, Tomboy and our own Beni Single [Riot in Belgium] (check our older post on him for a song of his that was on Relish EP 2) have done remixes of Sneaky’s new track “Kansas City”. I’m leaning more towards Tomboy’s mix, but I guess there isn’t one remix that stands out. The vocal is terrible in general and the band is notoriously known for that Tonite Only remix of “Pictures” which has tainted many souls. The Lifelike remix is pretty nice, synthy and all that jazz. Clearly not his best work but still enjoyable. Beni’s, well…, most of it shits me with that repetitive tone, but some cool shit is in there. It’s still cool.

Bottomline is, its Sneaky; I wasn’t expecting much.
