Tobacco + Sun

Black Moth Super Rainbow have got to explode sometime soon. With 3 albums as Satanstompingcaterpillars perviously, then 4 albums as BMSR, along with plenty of EP’s, they have got to make that next big jump soon. Well, in the meantime Tobacco (the lead vocalist) has just released his own album called ‘Fucked Up Friends’. Its still in that same sun drenched, kaleidoscopic vein with more of a hip-hop wash over it all. One of the tracks even features vocals from Aesop Rock. Don’t worry if you don’t actually like hip-hop (like me) because it doesn’t have too strong a flavour.

Now I know our good friend Dave from Hyperbole has busted a few tracks from this already, but its just such a good album that I have to add to it.

PIVOT

I feel like Ive been posting a bit of stuff being dropped on Warp, but everything they have been releasing has just been so damn good. Pivot are a band that I should have picked up on earlier cos I read a few posts about them, but never listened to it because, well, theres just too much new shit being blasted across blogs these days and you cant listen to EVERYTHING. But these boys (who supported Battles recently here in Australia) really are something special. Calculated, instrumental, electronica/post rock, and I could just imagine this being amazing live. So yeah, give these a listen. wavesatnightTM guarantee you will like it, unless you dont like music, or dont have ears, in which case why are you even reading this music blog? You should be seeing someone about your ear problem I suggest. I guess you could hear out of the holes in your head where your ears used to be though. Just the acoustics wouldnt be anywhere as good as a normal, non deformed ear canal…

Clark

Warp Records, home of !!!, Grizzly Bear, Battles, Boards Of Canada, Aphex Twin, Jamie Lidell etc, constantly release some of the most interesting and experimental electronica around. This is no exception. Turning Dragon is the new album by Clark, and it is such an appropriate title. These tracks are loud, abrasive IDM and flow so well, and listening back on his previous albums, he has produced a far more refined sound.

Animal Collective

Animal Collective released one of the top five albums of last year. Easily. The twisted electronica/indie folk/psychadelia of Strawberry Jam was just such a fucking individual affair. Now they are set to drop their new four track Water Curses EP, with three out of the four songs coming from the Strawberry Jam sessions. If your a fan of their earlier albums such as Feels, or bands like Panda Bear, Deerhoof, or even Black Dice, guaranteed you will love this.
