French Friday: Philippe Zdar

Yeah. It’s Anzac Day and I’m giving props to Frenchies. Well with the news that We Love Sounds is going have Cassius as part of its line-up, along with Mr. Oizo, !!!, Lindstrom (yeahboyz!), The Whip and a Marina-less Bonde do Role, it looks like OneLove have actually done something right. Now for them not to let fluoro kids in their shindigs. My big up to Gallic kids this week is in relation to this, so Philippe Zdar is the man of the hour.

Apart from being uber-producer extraordinaire to artists like MC Solaar, Chromeo and our very own (as in Melbourne) Cut Copy, Mr. Philippe Cerboneschi has produced some tremendous work of his own. In the mid 90’s, his work with Etienne de Crécy under the name of Motorbass was as slammin’ house as slammin’ house could get, but there was still that touch of funk, most notably on the ‘Around the World’ remix.

After meeting Boom Bass whilst producing Solaar’s album, they formed the group Le Funk Mob, which then went on to be Cassius. There is not a week where I don’t listen to 1999. I simply love it. Their body of work over the years has always had that certain sense of now, along with some hip-hop roots.

Not surprising…they love Flavour Flav. Enjoy.

D.I.M. the lights

I’ve always wanted to get rid of my light dimmer in my room for some little reason. I just noticed that, compared to the other lights in my house, my bedroom light is nowhere near as bright as the other lights, even at full capacity. But when playing new material from German electronic mystro, D.I.M., my little light problem seems to float away.

For you Aussie boys and gals out there, you should be happy. Happy that D.I.M. is coming to our shores once again to set up camp and do what he does best, and ya’ll know what that is right? Heck yes. So, the Future Music Fest will be lucky to have him along with other cool outfits like WhoMadeWho, The Black Ghosts, Datarock, Diplo, etc. Nice stuff.

You can buy Sta’s “In Living Colours” from Beatport or DJDownload. The remix hasn’t grown on me yet which is weird, normally soon as a I hear a new D.I.M. track or remix I fall in love straight away. I just can’t put my finger on this one.

MP3: Sta - In Living Colour (D.I.M. Remix)

Although, I cannot express enough how much I love the remix D.I.M. did of Belgium’s Shameboy. It is CLASS! The track “Heartcore” is taken from the upcoming album (released in March) of the same name. It’s great stuff guys and girls. Go to their myspace and follow the iTunes links to buy the tracks, simple.
