FRENCH FRIDAY: LE KNIGHT CLUB

FRENCH FRIDAY: LE KNIGHT CLUB

French Friday is back and it is indeed a mighty fine evening to re-launch the sucker.

Le Knight Club is made up of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo & Eric Chedeville. Guy-Man is of course 1/2 of Daft Punk and Eric aka. Rico the Wizzard is a co-founder of Pumpking Records (more on Rico with his new work on the Darling label can be read at the bottom of here).

These two close friends started up the raddest, bad-ass French house Crydamoure record label back in 1997. This label screams the classic French filtered sound and it should NEVER be forgotton. It featured everyone from the Buffalo Bunch to DJ Sneak.

Le Knight Club had numerous releases on Crydamoure, around 9 quality 12″s. I’ve put up a nice spread of their work and also remixes they have done in the past. I really can’t express my love them. Bisous!

Busy P and part of his Ed Banger crew (plus Crookers) are back for his new release “Pedrophilia“, featuring rap from Murs (Making Underground Raw Shit) and some nice remixes from our homeboys DJ Mehdi, So Me and legend Mr. Oizo. KBC had a few remixes streamable for a while now so kudos to them, but something else you should check out there is the new Drop the Lime shizz thats out soon - take a peek. Also theres a dope Busy P interview at Mad Decent, check it out! Busy’s “Pedrophilia” release came out June 23rd so grab it from Turntable Lab, Phonica or Arcade Mode.

Falken’s Eye

By popular demand, I’ve re-uploaded the Fred Falke Triple J interview+mix that went on the airwaves 29th of March earlier this year. As a bonus, I’ve also put up the Third Class Radio (final show) that was on the 4th of April, also earlier this year. It’s relevant because not only does it have a guest appearance from Knightlife but also the man himself, Fred Falke. I highly recommend you guys listen to this bad boy; not only is it more hilarious but theres also alot more talking from Falkie on this one compared to the JJJ interview.

Imitating real life

I’m going to introduce you all to the wonderful world of Lifelike. To save me the time and exhaustion of writing up a description of the man and his career, here’s his bio taken from his official website:

As many lucky teenagers from the late 80’s, Laurent started as a bass player in a small highschool band influenced by new-wave and pop music acts like Cabaret Voltaire, Frankie Goes To Hollywood or Simple Minds and discovered the art of sampling thru the first popular 8/16bits computers.

Producing first for other artists in the early & mid 90’s, he joined the parisian label 20000ST in 2001 (which was responsible for the hitsingle of Demon “You Are My High”) to release his first single “The Soul Of …”, which features vocals performed by the NYC originated black icon Mandel Turner.

Massively playlisted by DJs like Alex Gopher and supported by the parisian radio FG, “The Soul Of…” become in a few month the classic summer 2002 club anthem reaching place n°5 in the french dance charts.

A few months later, the single Black Chess (The Cult EP A-side), a dark but dancefloor track, was choosed by Thomas Bangalter, Philippe Zdar & DJ Falcon for the famous Together 2002 Tour as their first record played in each gig, and became an anthem.

Remixing for artists or labels like Annie, Belle, OT Quartet, Headbangers Rec., Demon or Sebastien Leger, helped Laurent to establish his trademark thru a very special kind of sound. His meeting with the german producer Christophe Hoeffel in winter 2004, ended up by the now famous track Discopolis: simply one of the biggest underground selling anthem of 2005/2006. The track, picked up by Alan Braxe (one of the three guys that was behind the huge hit –Stardust “Music Sounds Better With You”) on his label Vulture, is now re-released on Defected with video support from Seb Janiak (Daft Punk “Burnin”) and new remixes (Alan Braxe, Chris Lake, Kerri Chandler…)
