The Revenge is coming out to Aus very soon for We Love Sounds, and is playing in Melbs on the 4th June at Revolver. So down for that (besides the trip across the river…). One edit Im really digging of his is an old Q-Tip rework. Damn funky and damn smooth.

As a loyal Waves reader, you may know of my love for the original version of this next track by UK’s Orange Juice from the early 80’s, but here is a nice, simple and clean edit for mixing, if you were so inclined.

I just couldnt help but post this. The new Chem Bros track is amazing. Its been on repeat for days. This album will be huge, with hopefully no cheese ‘Do It Again’-esque tracks.

Im still spinning the last Subway album (‘Subway II’), even this long after it came out, and Im totally hooked on the krautrock fed disco. Their new EP, ‘DBO’ was recently released on London label Deadly People, and is three tracks of pleasurable arpeggiations.

Subway – DBO

Now for something slightly darker. Blancmange grew from the 80’s UK New Wave scene alongside bands such as Depeche Mode, Soft Cell etc. I still really dig their second album ‘Mange Tout’; an amazing goth and darkwave crossover. If you enjoy this, hunt down the Serie Noir 2 Compilation by The Glimmers (as Glimmer Twins).

It always saddens & frustrates me when a promising new band that you actually LOVE, great sound, new / different / exciting EP etc, drop their debut record it’s less than amazing.

Tigercity’s awesome Pretend Not To Love EP was brimming with touches of funky Prince, Holy Ghost style disco and Junior Boys electro pop. While their debut isn’t bad per se, it feels like they’ve been shoe-horned into a more serious pop-rock mould that lacks the edge that made them interesting in the first place.
Here’s a stellar track from their Pretend Not To Love EP from 2007 and a slightly less stellar track from their debut Ancient Lover.

Dead Mellotron hails from Monroe, Louisiana and is made up of one member, simply known as Frazier. He has made his debut EP, Ghost Light Constellation, available for free download in its entirety on the band’s website.
Full of sweeping distortion and epic spaced out drums, especially on Untitled, the EP gives me the same feel as when I first listened to Souvlaki by Slowdive. In fact, think My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive’s epic dream-pop, mixed with Deerhunter’s Space Rock sensibilities. It actually really come across as a seriously accomplished debut EP. Definitely a big recommendation from me.

MP3: Dead Mellowtron – Untitled

Now, for one of my current favorite Disco producers at the moment, Nitedog who for me, sits alongside others such as Lovefingers, Lee Douglas, The whole Black Disco NYC crew, Glossy and Jacques Renault. This edit is BIG, slicing the fattest piano groove with bit of fuzz-bass madness.

Finally I can share some truly amazing new music that I’ve been holding onto now for a few months. It’s the hard work of Melbourne’s DJ Agent 86 – a veteran of the music scene for 20 years. He began selling records and has since played in many of the best bars, clubs and festivals in the country!

His next big venture lies in production and has started his own label Lightspeed Recordings which launched it’s first EP this week titled ‘Let There Be Light’. Not unlike his eclectic dj sets, the three tracks are a heavy blend of 70’s funk & soul laced with today’s love of disco edits! Earlier this month ‘86 released ‘Raise the Roof EP’ on the ‘Bomb Hip Hop US’ label with four low tempo, bass driven jams which show off his roots in hip hop music and his trademark scratching skills.

‘Magic’ from ‘Let There be Light’ – samples the gorgeous Olivia Newton John…….magic!

MP3: DJ AGENT 86 – MAGIC

‘The Ultimate’ from ‘Raise the Roof EP’ – listen out for the ‘Cameo’ appearance.

MP3: DJ AGENT 86 – THE ULTIMATE

Get your hands on the full EP’s in magnificent 320 quality here —> [Juno]
Keep your ears to the ground for future releases due in August on Lightspeed Recordings.

Flying Saucer Attack were formed in Bristol, England in 1992. David Pearce was the core member of the group, and Rachel Brook (of Movietone, another Bristol band) was a member for most of the band’s lifetime.
The band were marked by quiet vocals and sheets of feedback with similarities to contemporary shoegazing bands, or The Jesus and Mary Chain. FSA were able to create a small but enthusiastic fanbase as one of the more remarkable experimental rock bands of the day. The band were notable for recording most of their output at home into a normal home stereo system, avoiding recording studios as much as they could. This gave their music a DIY feel and gave them the freedom to experiment as much as they wanted. This track comes off their self titled album, and is one of the better blends of shoegaze and space rock, with less of a krautrock influence as the other tracks.

MP3: Flying Saucer Attack – My Dreaming Hill

Erlend Øye (Whitest Boy Alive) has really taken these guys under his wing. One listen and you’ll realise why.

MP3: The New Wine – Revolving Cylinder

The rest of these tracks are just a sample of some of the new stuff Ive been sifting through recently. Free Blood are great, bit of a mix between the dance-punk of !!! and Out Hud (being that they all share members). A Certain Ratio Ive been posting alot of recently and below is one of their newer tracks where they delve into more electronic territories. Ive also thrown in some new Decoder Ring (awesome track from an Australian staple), an old remix of probably My Bloody Valentine’s most danceable track and some Radio Dept. Enjoy.

Although there are only five boroughs, a number of areas near and far have been rhetorically identified as New York City’s “Sixth Borough“. Places to which the “sixth borough” appellation have been applied include New Jersey (especially Hudson County, New Jersey or Newark, New Jersey); Nassau County, New York; Philadelphia; South Florida and even Israel. The only proposal to merit any formal consideration was a 1934 bill submitted by a New York City alderman that suggested merging Yonkers into New York City as a sixth borough.
