TIK TIK TIK

That’s the sound of a heart, like a clock. Mine was on overdrive this morning but I came out with a drivers license out of it so it was all well worth it. I’m doing yet another LOTP post as I can’t stop loving them. In my opinion, LOTP is the Klaxons of 2008. Not so much hyped at the moment (I’m basing that on the fact that I don’t have 20+ LOTP remixes compared to “Atlantis to Interzone” alone) but they will all hype hype hype x10 verrrry soon. Also their clip for their latest single “Heartbeat” is probably my favourite music clip thus far of anything I’ve seen in 2008.

LATE OF THE PIER - HEARTBEAT

There’s a Hot Chip remix floating around but my pick of the bunch is the Zongamin remix (I wouldn’t call it _that_ much of a remix if you get my drift…). Buy the 12″, CD single or the 7″ at Juno homies.

DIP IN

So for like 2 months i’ve been harassed to put up about this band, Jan Mayen and i’m seriously dumbfounded to why i haven’t done so (sorry D). I’m also terrible when it comes to explaining the background of bands… so i usually make a half arse metaphor like “If The Strokes beat up Blondies transvestite drummer” or something shit like that but the most honest thing i can say about this band is, they are so bad ass. In particular this song ..

p.s Hi Suzie!

TST

TST. No, I dont know what it stands for. Doesnt really matter. These guys make some dark, energetic, indie post-punk. There has been so much good music coming out Melbourne lately that I feel I barely have to look anywhere else but down the road to find it. If you dig these guys, just wait a few weeks or so til there are some shows announced, then I recommend making your way down to catch them live.

Pier

New Late of the Pier AA-sided single featuring ‘Space and the Woods’ and ‘Focker’ to follow from the success of ‘The Bears are Coming’. ‘Space and the Woods’ is co-produced by Erol and LOTP and is somewhat greatly polished to when we heard it long long ago (the 7″ was out May last year!!). Nevertheless, it’s still kick-ass.

But what makes me just ooze and froth at the mouth is their epic track “Focker”. I tried to find a thesaurus to come up with some other words to describe this track but failed in the search. Ahem, .. so the best I came up with is: specatularadazzlingreatremendoussss. Recorded in the same session with Erol, you know it’s good.

More Presets yet again

Im surprised these two tracks haven’t been getting much attention. The KIM edit isn’t bad. Just adds a bit of punch to one of my favorite tracks of the year. The Zombie Nation remix? Well nothing really interesting happens and it just drags on for way too long. Cant wait for the 21st of June though. Anyone else manage to score tickets before they were snapped up in a day?
(In a completely unrelated note: The new Brian Jonestown Massacre album is good. Really, really, really good. I might get around to posting a few tracks when Ive got time.)

Rattle ‘n roll

First off, before I commence the music write-up wizbang stuff, I just want to say Fred Falke was amazing. If you missed him in Melbourne (or any other gig for that matter) then I am very disappointed with you… unless you had a rad-ass excuse. But I doubt that. Live bass over ‘Intro’ - enough said!

To get started I’m introducing Act Yo Age, signed to Ajax’s label ‘Sweat It Out‘. With new remixes on the horizon: Franz & Shape on Relish, Larry Tee’s new single and one appearing on Shir Khan’s Exploited label. New EP will be out early July on Sweat It Out. Very hot prospect so keep your eyes peeled.

Oh, get some more Act Yo Age material at redthreat.

As you know The Presets are cooking up quite a storm at the moment, with their Aussie tour selling like hot cakes. But bigger news is that their second album Apocalypso has just come out, well yesterday to be exact. You know the drill; smash that piggybank, gather up the pennies and use them to buy this bad boy. Highly recommend it and you will see why.

Now for some love from France. SebastiAn’s highly anticipated EP (staring the much hyped track “Motor”; posted here) is about to drop on Ed Rec, and trust me, the three tracks sound bloody fantastic.

Still continuing on with the French music, I recently just got onto a duo named Pillage staring Florian and Frederic. I got in touch with Frederic earlier this week:

“Flo and I met when we were doing radio about three years ago. He has a Rock show but plays electro, and I used to have a hip hop show, but played electro too. Flo has a more underground background, he used to play at free parties and stuff, but got bored. I had a more hip hop background.

We started mixing together by accident, i needed help and he was there. it turned out pretty good, and Electrosexual invited us to play for his birthday.
After we had to split due to our respective activities, and we met again in Paris a few weeks ago and decided to create a band called Pillage, to make our collaboration official.

Our objective is to play in clubs where ever we can and have fun playing our tunes.”

If you are a sucker for that classic, raunchy synth sound then definitely check them out. They’ve done two remixes for UK’s Old School Reunion and French beauty Nina; also have done their own little number called “Die 4 Ur Ass”. Currently they are working on a live set for parties in summer so expect something promising coming up very soon.

Islands have always been a great indie act from Montreal that I have been following after hearing their track “Rough Gem” on the telly. If you are a Unicorn fan then you will instantly love Islands. Take my word for it. Make sure you check out their first album “Return to the Sea” and also look out for their second album “Arm’s Way” out May 20.

Still Going, one of our favourite groups on DFA Records, have just done a magnificent remix for Love Motion Disco. It’s dreamy, it’s pleasant, it’s inviting and yet so simple at the same time. The same could also be said for their remix of Force of Nature’s “Transmute”. I really could listen to this all day.

Goldfrapp’s new single “Happiness” has been given the treatment by our wonderful Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve. You know you love it. And if you really do, just remember there is more Wizardry at this post.

Kicking and Screaming

Another Presets update. After hearing Kicking And Screaming the last time I caught the Presets I was looking forward to the album version. Now after hearing this, Im not too sure. Same with A New Sky. I really, really loved This Boys In Love, but the verdicts still out on these two new tracks. As usual, buy the stuff too.

Animal Collective

Animal Collective released one of the top five albums of last year. Easily. The twisted electronica/indie folk/psychadelia of Strawberry Jam was just such a fucking individual affair. Now they are set to drop their new four track Water Curses EP, with three out of the four songs coming from the Strawberry Jam sessions. If your a fan of their earlier albums such as Feels, or bands like Panda Bear, Deerhoof, or even Black Dice, guaranteed you will love this.

Hot, Neon Knights

As I type this the sweat drips from my heated head, my legs cramp and I’m yearning for a glass of water that I can’t be bothered grabbing. Yeah, theres a nice cool change floating around but man… this weather really does make me sick. Listening to Traffic does seem to ease the pain though, thank God.

OK, I’m introducing Melbourne’s Neon Knights, an indie/electro act, been around since August 2007, etc., etc… I was lucky enough to have them send in their Latrobe House Demo, containing three lovely tracks. I was also informed today that their new track “Just the Best” is avail. on their myspace so check their page pronto! I love their sound; very tasteful. With influences from MSTRKRFT, then how the heck can you go wrong? Highly recommend you folk out there give them a listen. Great review from Beat mag aswell: “amalgam of insane beatage, firestorming electro and fuck-off huge melodies with massive aplomb“. Niceeee.

THE PRESETS NEW ALBUM GLIMPSE

The Presets - Kicking & Screaming (Laneway Festival, Melbourne (2008))

I remember hearing this at Daft Punk… which is pretty much the only thing I can remember from Daft Punk. However, you can just feel yourself getting giddy in anticipation, so much so your not sure if your hungry or you need to have a wank. ALSO a slight treat… you have probably only just heard it on the radio if your lucky. Jori Hulkkonen, Lifelike (yesss!!!), Kevin Saunderson remix’s are going to be surfacing soon, bundled with a KIM edit.
