S0FT S0UNDZ

Apparently the world is in love lockdown with Kanye West and still frothing over MGMT so this is where I come out of my cave (which, mind you, living conditions were terrible: I had to eat out of the kitchen sink for fuck’s sake) and start to blog something that would benefit mankind.

The first card up my sleeve is an oldish gem (circa 2004). Catchy vocal, kinky bass riffs that would make one sweat tears.. but most importantly holds onto that strong disco-house feel. This is what dreams are made of. It’s the A side of Alain Delon’s French Fries Vol. 2.

MP3: Alain Delon - Africa

EDIT/UPDATE: I was randomly listening to some Gepy & Gepy today when their track “African Love Song” popped up…

One of my favourite tracks on Aeroplane’s ‘Take Off’ mixtape (obtain it here) is by Italian Enzo Ponzio. Very nice italo, great buildup; leaves me panting at the close of this adventure. Epic.

Released recently on Kitsune Records but has been floating around for a while is In Flagranti’s ‘Business Acumen’. Brilliant percussion, raunchy and sexy guitars that would make a hot summer night go down a treat. If you thought the original was good, Holy Ghost! have given it their own magic and spicey feel in their cover. This is essential. Buy it here; put your pocket money to something decent for once.

“He’ll lick yo muthafuckn’ pussy, he’ll even turn you around and lick the muthafuckn’ back door”

Yeah it’s dirty but it’s brought to us by the master Mike Dunn, legend of tracks like “Let It Be House”, “God Made It Funky”, “Magic Feet”, etc. etc. The ‘Black Ball Mixx’ has a more housey feel compared to the original, removing the vulgar lyrics so yeah it’s safe to play around your mum. Buy this bad boy right now so you can get real freaky like a phreaky mother fucka’.

Another song that was featured in Aeroplane’s ‘Take Off’ mixtape is Peter Visti’s ‘Tokyo by Night’; a very nice and calming balearic-disco number released on Eskimo. Check out more of Peter’s releases on one of my favourite record labels Mindless Boogie; they are delish.

MP3: Peter Visti - Tokyo by Night

Continuing on with the balearic-disco theme is a remix by Todd Terje of a track by Kaoru Inoue aka Chari Chari for Mule - a well respected Japanese house producer and DJ. This remix is bliss where Terje, as typical, makes it such a dreamy, enjoyable adventure.

Now onto something a tiny bit different from whats been posted, just to break up this post a tiny bit - but a great way to close. Two remixes here both featuring Romain Tranchart - part of Funk Legacy and also Modjo. The second remix posted below, Salif Keita’s ‘Yambo’, Romain is joined by Rico the Wizzard aka Eric Chédeville, co-founder of Crydamoure records (the other co-founder was of course Guy-Man from Daft Punk). Eric is also in Le Knight Club with Guy-Man and also a super-group known as Crydajam.

MP3: Mylène Farmer - California (Romain Tranchart & Raw Man Remix)

While I’m on the topic of Crydamoure and Rico, I have some exciting news. French filtered-house will be revived. Alex Baron has started a new label named Darling Records (add the myspace aswell). Eric is signed to the label and will release under the name Rico the Wizzard. Two EP’s are already planned; first being Alex’s ‘Shooting Girls’ (which can be heard on the record label’s myspace) and one from Rico. These will more than likely be released in October. Get excited!!! (compare both logo’s of Crydamoure and Darling.. yum!)

Kitsuné Tabloid

A new Kitsune mix CD is out; this one mixed by German lads Digitalism, picking songs that apparently have inspired the duo. Digitalism tell a lovely story with their mix (hence the title ‘Tabloid’), so if you wish to purchase, head down to Boomkat. It’s tight!

Life on the Street

Finally the blog is back rollin & scratchin’ again. While writing this I am listening to Mashed 4 which I was anticipating a tad since the last compilations in the series were pretty cool (having Ajax and even Bang Gang doing mixes). But still I’m not one for Ministry releases and despise them greatly. And yes this one does disappoint; Kissy Sell Out does a nice job but Aston Shuffle’s attempt of mixing the “indie” tracks is fucking dismal. Fuck, I would rather have Steve Aoki take a diarrhea dump in my ear then to listen to _that_ again. Fuck.

Anyway, Stewart Rowell & Louis Gaston make up Streetlife DJs: a UK DJ’ing/production duo sharing between them 30 years of turntable experience. They are compassionate with their music and their attitude is bold: ‘this is the music industry, so we want to entertain’. So, with that being said, they aren’t afraid to mix different genres around. DJ Mag even claiming them to be the UK version of 2 Many DJs.

They recently caught my eye after hearing some fine remixes/edits but what put the icing on the cake was seeing a release of theirs on Kitsune; I knew they had to be special, right? Buy their Kitsune 12″ ‘Gunn Crime’ (a nice adaption of the Peter Gunn theme) from Spank Records.
