GENEVA JACUZZI - LOVE CABOOSE Directed by Travis Peterson 2008
You know when you have that deal with your girlfriend / boyfriend that if you ever get the chance to sleep with someone famous you can? Like Scarlet Johanson or Crispin Glover.
I really don’t know to much about this girl, except that she has collaborated with Ariel Pink from haunted graffiti. Besides the amazing vhs aesthetic in this video, I’m also quite attached to anything with a tape deck/lo-fi feel. Love it!
There is a limited Edition hand made CD available on her myspace “KOOZE CONTROL” for $18.
Hi wavers, i forgot to introduce myself last post and now it looks like JD beat me to the punch anyway.
I’m Gold Lion and I’ll try my best to bring some waves that crash a little different on these here shores.
Starting now!
Been digging some noisy lo-fi electronic post-punk/art rock for the last few days now. Hailing from France where they just finished a mini-tour supporting Black Lips, Cheveu are all dirty guitars, crappy casio drums and throwaway meaningless lyrics that sound like they were recorded through a tin can. Similarly silly yet darker is The Rebel (A.K.A. Ben Wallers, of the Country Teasers ). Asian Rush is from ‘Tarscoffsky’s The Snackrifice 12″ out last year on Texas label Emperor Jones (who put out American Analog Set and Mountain Goats as well).
Now for some more hi-fi noise. Featured on the upcoming Kitsune Compilation, where they sound a lot less abrasive than on their EPs, is electro/thrash duo Heartsrevolution. Their sound is similar to Crystal Castles (with whom they did a split 7″), but instead of being sucked into Purgatory by your Nintendo you’re being disintegrated with a laser-rifle. Switchblade is off their EP of the same name.
Lastly we have a new Le Castle Vania track, the very yummy dance-floor banger (yaaay banger) Zero Machine, It samples a tiny bit of Smashing Pumpkins “Zero”, hence the name.
I’m a bit late on these last ones (my internets have been trying to commit suicide) and they’re now all over the hype machine but hey…
Still awesome right?
Im having a hard time getting any info on Memory Cassette. I know it’s got something to do with New Jersey’s Weird Tapes, but thats it. Anyone got any proper info on these soft, dreamy, lo-fi disco makers? (Oh, and that drum beat in Surfin, that has got to be from Face To Face?)
The Hungry Ghosts on the other hand, I do know all about. I used to love these guys, back before they called it quits. Their dark, instrumental post-rock resonated so loudly that it grabbed the attention of Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) who went and produced their second and finest album: Alone, Alone. You may have seen one of the Hungry Ghosts playing around town in either The Triffids, The Black Eyed Susans, or even playing guitar onstage with Cut Copy on their 2007 tour.
I love the fact that they only need to say so little to say so much.
So like I haven’t posted anything for a while. I’ve kind of been busy lost in my own mind trying to decide if I should go overseas or if I should throw away my life looking for a full time job. So what have I discovered? Well not much, but in a space of one week I did find out that magic mushrooms grow behind my old high school oval and that my mum knows that i used the word ‘cunt’ and/or ‘cunty’ in my last post
NO AGE
If you have heard of mika mako then you have probably heard of these guys before. But if you live outside LA then maybe not? They are apparently touring Australia towards the end of this year with pets with pets possibly supporting. Like i dunno. You really have to listen to ‘everybody’s down’ on their myspace its fucking amazing but they also have a tribute song to bjork which is a pretty sound cover.
Coming to Melbourne soon. Not Bjork but like No Age and stuff
THE STABS I’ve had a stalker before and its really kind of creepy and scares the shit out of you at the time. But when you get a band named ‘the stabs’ with a song ‘never going home’ with lyrics… “you got my number and then you never called, so i got some duct tape and kicked in your front door” it makes obsessive violence cool again.
So instead of buying another pair of cheap mondays just stalk your ex and listen to the stabs.
STAY HIGH I have this friend named gentle. He dresses like an esoteric prince but has this amazing ability to discover bands from the future, another planet or connections to an accention cult. This is one of them. Stay High.
WHICH HATS
The witch hats have a similar rad sound to the stabs. Hailing from Melbourne and touring at the moment promoting their new 7 inch “CELLULITE SOUL“. You can check out the gig dates on their myspace.
TELEPATHE Now alot of you are gonna be like, “quit reading vice band reviews and trying to palm them off as your own find”. Well whatever. It was just coincidence that, gentle and my girlfriend introduced me to them at the same time vice decided to write some shit review.
However they will be touring Australia and will be in Melbourne on the 26th of June at the Toff,
Supported by pets with pets.
