So I haven’t posted diddly for awhile, real sorry. I some how fumbled myself into a 9 to 5 job. Bazaar, I know but I’ve learnt some valuable adult life skills by working an honest job. For Example. The majority of middle aged people are the most ridiculous people alive. Vent. Ok, now that ive written something bitter and without context, lets get started.

Nash The Slash is the amazing invisible man look alike Canadian from the late 70’s who I think is still kicking around today. He plays electric mandolins and whaling synth sounds. A no-wave, punk, synth, lo-fi magician. Before you listen to these two songs I recommend watching this as your first impression.

MP3: NASH THE SLASH – WOLF

MP3: NASH THE SLASH – REACTOR NO. 2

We all like looking pensive from time to time and i couldn’t think of a better sound track to do it. Well maybe Prokofiev. However this is still pretty cool. I wouldn’t recommend listening to this if it was 4am and your home alone drinking gin. This song features on the titled album ’June 1st, 1974′ . The release is a live recording that mainly consists of Kevin Ayers and John Cale. However Brian Eno and Nico do feature for this amazing cover of The Doors ‘the end’.

MP3: BRIAN ENO AND NICO – THE END (THE DOORS COVER)

A friend of mine was recently offered to do a photoshoot to pose as Lydia Lunch that is to be mass printed on a t-shirt. Besides the fact that this is pretty awesome I thought i would post up some Teenage Jesus and The Jerks, Founded by Lydia Lunch and James Chance. Not the most laid back, easy listening music but I cant stop listening to No Wave.

Time for another Song Of The Day. I was going to include a track off the new Passion Pit album because Ive been digging that recently, but its just too sugary and I know I’ll just be completely sick of it in two weeks time, like MGMT.
So on with the time tested goodness.

In the burgeoning UK music scene in the early 80’s, Shriekback never quite got the credit they deserved. Consisting of members of Gang Of Four and XTC should have been a recipe for success enough. This tune comes from an early ‘82 single and as the title suggests contains one thick bassline.

MP3: Shriekback – My Spine Is The Bassline

Sticking with the same UK scene, A Certain Ratio are another band Im surprised arent more well known. They were signed to Factory Records, and even come off sounding like a funkier Joy Division. They were one of the first big bands to really explore the fusion of punk, funk and disco, and you can hear their influence through alot of DFA bands these days. This comes off their first album ‘The Graveyard and the Ballroom’.

MP3: A Certain Ratio – Do The Du (Casse)

James Chance (aka James White) was a key figure in No Wave, carrying links to Lydia Lunch and playing a combination of improvisational jazz-like music and punk in the New York music scene since the late 1970s, in such bands as Teenage Jesus & the Jerks, James Chance and the Contortions, James White and the Blacks.

MP3: James White & The Blacks – Contort Yourself (August Darnell Remix)

This last track I dont want to go into detail on, but I have heard that possibly, maybe, probably they just may be coming down here to Melbourne to tour for the first time in a while………….

MP3: The Boredoms – ◎
