Love of Diagrams, Melbourne, have just released their third album, Nowhere Forever, and it is amazing. Coming from a band thats roots lie in the sounds of NY No Wave and UK Post Punk, that band has taken these sounds and grown and developed them, fusing more recently with 80’s/90’s Shoegaze and Dream-Pop, to create an instant classic. I am really digging this one, even more so than their previous releases and the Beaches album (of whom Antonia Sellbach of Love Of Diagrams is also a member).

MP3: Love Of Diagrams – Lookout
MP3: Love Of Diagrams – Winding

To be honest it took me a while to jump on the YACHT bandwagon….like up until last week. But ever since I got the duo’s newest album, See Mystery Lights, I cant turn it off. Easy, breezy, colourful pop mixed with trademark DFA sensibilities. Also, inside joke but this song will always remind me of colourful flashing vaginas. You had to be there.

MP3: Yacht – Afterlife

Now for a bit of Kid Creole and the Coconuts. If your looking for some funk/latin tunes to get people jiving like crazy, and arent cheesy, try these guys. You hear there stuff sampled and ripped everywhere (most notably The Avalanches). This is actually a damn smooth track with a disco heart.

MP3: Kid Creole & the Coconuts – I’m A Wonderful Thing Baby (Remix Version)

I cant really divulge too much information about this next bit, but for anyone in Melbourne this Saturday night at a secret location there is a warehouse party featuring 4 amazing local bands, with Waves At Night DJs playing in-between sets and keeping the dancefloor going after as well. Its going to be very big, if the last ones held by this crew are anything to go by. So ask around and come down and party.

I was never a massive fan of Dan Deacon, i loved his sound but found it all just kinda went in ear and out the other, just party music right? It was only after seeing him live at Summertones last week that i really “got” it. Setting up IN the middle of the crowd, talking fast and loud and getting the crowd to participate in ways that i didn’t even think possible, with an enthusiasm and energy that was infectious as hell, i was seriously impressed.
His new LP Bromst, out March 24th, is a much denser, mature record than Spiderman of the Rings. Were i to make a stupid but logical comparison, It’s what Sound Of Silver was for LCD Soundsystem, older, wiser, richer, more experimental and more personal.
Those who have written off Dan Deacon as that “wacky” guy who writes video-game-like party music will have to do a double take.

Snookered is just the second song this year to make me feel both happy, sad and full of hope, the first being Animal Collective’s My Girls. Highly highly Recommended.

56K WARNING: ALOT OF FLYERS IN THIS POST

The festive season is probably finished now, so moving in its place is the party season. If you aren’t at Falls, Pyramid or any other thing they run around this time of year then you should definitely hit the LAST FUCKING EVER NIGHT EVER AT THIRD CLASS EVER, EVER… on NYE (31/12/2008 for those that have a diary next to their keyboard). GET TICKETS HERE. Coolest.

NEXT…, after his Summercrayze set, Ed Rec King of Kings, Pedro Winter aka. Busy P will be constructing a furious storm at Unlucky on New Years night. I know the Hot BBQ kids would’ve either stuck with going to a watered down Hot BBQ (well it’s really Summerdayze plus a Hot BBQ stage (NEAT!!!)) or opted with the refund. So if you are stuck for anything exciting to do on NYD, then pay Pedro a visit – fun fun fun, guaranteed!

NEXT NEXT…., Boys Noize returns to Australia mate for that Summerdayze thing I mentioned previously, and believe me, he will produce the goods. I had a 4hour hard-on or however long he played for last time he was down here, performing at that crappy abandoned cinema complex place. Well what a disaster that was… Switch didn’t turn up (who gives a damn about that) which meant B. Noize covered his set (huzah) and various other things went wrong like people pissing on the cinema seats as the exits were like from me to Mars – a long distance.

Anyway, there will be a herrrrugeeee Boysnoize Records ppaarrty night (23rd Jan) which will have supports from the master of all things French and bass-hound, Fred Falke, and fellow BNR label mate D.I.M. – he destroys children in sight with his fists of fury. This will be a very very top night and strongly suggest you get your tickets from here, ASAP! For Sydney kids, its at The Forum on the 25th and you can get tickets here.

Everyone likes a big gay boat party right? Scope the details below and for tickets, more info and a rad mixtape go right here..:
